Long story short, I played a lot until the time the Resistance 2 pack was for sale, got it and didn't play again until last night.

Lots of things have changed! I think I got the new UI down, the new mechbay, I see that we are in pilot tiers now and every match I get something called a pilot skill ranking up.

So I think I got all that.

Can anyone give me a down and dirty recap of any balance tweaks or changes since then? Something like a drastic change to ghost heat or a pulse nerf or similar? I don't want to roll out in my old builds and see that they are no longer viable due to some change I am not aware of.

Thanks in advance!

Sooo... what month was that exactly?

In terms of balance not much of major significance was changed since at least March I think. IS can now shoot 3LLs without ghost heat, that's about it. There was a number of other changes, but they were mostly incremental. Small buffs to worst mechs, Small nerfs to best mechs, a bit of PPC velocity buff, nothing really game changing. Adder can now remove its CT flamer :D

Big changes are supposed to be incorporated in the near future. PGI works at a big rebalance, so far we got 2 PTS sessions, 3rd incoming soon.

Keep in mind the 3LL change and check your quirks, should be enough.

Basically nothing has changed really since last December. You should be good. Just read your quirks to double check your builds.

Aside from what is already stated:
Read up on quirks by hovering the mouse over mechs -- or for a more comfortable view there is an arrow of sorts next to the right side mech name on the upper right hand corner which can expand to show quirks. May need to use the "Layout" view rather than the compact view. (As you can imagine I haven't looked at it much in a long while since I don't really care or min/max).

That said, in a few upcoming months expect the possibility to see quirks change completely with weapon/heat related quirks disappearing almost entirely... in the name of Information Warfare, in which mechs will become unique in sensors, special maneuverability features..and some other things.

Also in upcoming months, possibility of "Cloaking device" being removed from the ECM in favor of a more canonical representation. (Sorry, no ghost signatures yet). Its radius is also venturing the idea of being cut in half. ECM would still feature a "lock on delay" to fight against if cloaking device is removed.

Again in upcoming potential changes... Laser nerf! All lasers will require you to press R for damage (press F to pay respects) to do full damage at optimum range. (270 ML, etc.) Clans have a 60% cut in their Past-Optimum range to help quell their range advantage to something more reasonable.

In other words -- the major rebalancing has not yet happened. You've got time to get the popcorn.

Thanks guys this is exactly the info I need to wade back in with some confidence.

Now to see if I will keep with my locusts and Grasshoppers or try one of the r2 mech sitting in the garage.

there are some new mechs you should be aware of, the mauler, the black knight, the wolfhound.. they're all pretty good and they can catch you off guard the first few times

crab has really unfair hitboxes and is really small and it can shoot 3LL ... it's pretty rad as well.

i know you mentioned R2 but to see the mechs actually being played and what people can do with them has been a development in the past 2-3 months
