I've played for years and been through one cataclysmic re-balancing after the other. Could we please have a stock mech option while PGI figures out how they will finally balance the game?

Two options: stock IS vs stock IS, stock clan vs stock clan

If you wont do it on the production servers, then put it up on the test servers when they are not being used for public testing. Please. Pretty please.

Here's how I envision it.

Stock mechs, only in CW matches(maybe add skirmish/assault/etc cw)

Depending on your CW rank get randomized roll for weight class.

Randomized stock mech in CW fight.

This is would be a great game mode, easy to implement and make a lot if people happy. The reason I vote no is the lack of players MM has to work with. Until there are enough players to where everyone fights ONLY their own tier there shouldn't be any more game modes dividing the player base. I'm glad they dropped mode selection. I also think they should combine group and CW (with a fixed CW.)

The problem is theres a lot of disparity between the best and worst stock mechs. Letting people choose which stockmech theyre going to use in a stockmech only gamemode is really no better than allowing fully customized mechs

For that reason, I would like to see a stock mech gamemode where both teams get the same 12 random stockmechs and each player gets assigned one of those mechs.

I would give this a go if it were implemented - a bit of variety is a good thing.

There would be a problem with people in 3025 stock 'Mechs (with Single heat sinks and without ES) facing other people in 3050 stock 'Mechs (with double heat sinks and Endo-steel). See BLR-1G versus BLR-3M. Both stock 'Mechs with almost identical armament, but -3M has significantly better cooling.

Yeah, enjoy your stock Spider-5D.

I'm pretty sure most people will drive the Banshee-3M instead, meaning diversity will not benefit, let alone balancing.

"Quote" , when liking is not enough :-)

I would also add in the possibility for players to swap between each other. Click on others you like to swap with and if they reciprocate - you swap! Or maybe some sort of preference weightclass or something?

Yep, it'd have to be something like a 3025 stock mode, or we'd just have an even narrower meta of the few post-lostech mechs we have in the game. I run my WLF-2 near-stock in the public queue, and it does very well there.

Now a 3025 mode would be really cool. I don't even care if it's stock or non-stock, just 3025 tech. It'd solve a lot of the issues in MWO: low TTK, laser vomit (try that with SHS), IS-vs-clan balancing (as the latter's not there). If we had that, I'd play it all day long.

THIS WOULD BE AWESOME!!!
I don't agree that picking your own mechs would be bad, just that this game mode would be absolutely fantastic

3025 mode would be fricking excellent. There's MWO heat management... and then there's 3025 heat management. Night and day differences.

I said Spider-5D. It has only 1 ML, 1 Flamer and no ECM. Compared with that, the 5V is superior in stock match mode, with 2 MLs.

Derp. Yeah, the D's garbage. At least with the flamer in its current iteration.

AC5s on everything, all the time. What could compete? SHS powered LLs or PPCs? Non Artemis SRMs?

From having played Stock Mech nights, 3025 'mechs are actually very well balanced. In any group of designs, there will be some better and some worse, but the gap is far, far smaller using only Tech 1 machines. Time to Kill is much improved. Heat management is a challenge. There are few to none massive alphas. It's a really good game mode; it actually is the 'thinking man's shooter' we were promised back in the day. Even lowly 'mechs like the LCT-1V Locust can contribute to a battle, and mechs like the Hunchback or Atlas are the war machines they were always intended to be.

That said, 3025 machines are best balanced with quirks entirely removed, and could use a stock ammo buff. (Most of these designs have only a single ton of ammo for weapons; since MWO doubles durability, more ammo would help a lot).

3050 stock can work, but isn't as well balanced. Adding the high tech weapon systems increases the number of variables and imbalances things. Also, there aren't as many 3050 stock variants currently loaded into the game.

I have no direct experience with Clan v Clan stock only, but I'm told it works well. The Clan vs IS stock games we did were thrilling nail-biters - once we reduced the numbers of Clan 'mechs to something more like 10 v 12.

IMHO, I'd love to see 'Stock Mode' for the Warhammer and Marauder launch weekends, where the PUG que or CW goes (3025) stock-only for the weekend. If you drop in something not 3025 stock, you get a random 'mech. :D (with prizes of course).

So, count me in for Stock Mode.

It would be cool, but also very expensive for me to put even a handful of mechs back to stock lol.

Think of all the STD engines, SHS, and STD armor and structure I'd have to buy back. Ugh.
