Here's an idea for solving all the malcontent from the last voting patch..

Its solved in these easy steps:

1) Community accept 2-5 minutes of wait time. (its kinda like that right now anyway)

2) PGI return game mode select

3) PGI let us vote on 2 maps, not 4. Make map voting selections so that two similar maps are up for grabs.. Like River City and Crimson Strait, Alpine Peaks and Frozen City, HPG and Viridian Bog, Torumaline and Canyon network, Caustic Valley and Terra Therma and alike.. Make it so it NEVER happens a favored map is put up against an unfavored one, or a hot map against a cold one. Also, group maps with similar visibility.

This way, increase play on less favored maps.

4) Insert in-game animations from spectator AND from mech shoulders to watch while waiting for matches (If possible, from ongoing games on the map that won the vote). Make it more than 3 repeating sequences. (or a live ongoing match if possible). Make them feature the map that is going to be played on.

Alternatively, make a screen that has "mission objectives" stated and described at length to the pilot by the Bitchin' Betty or Captain Adams. Make it extensive, immersive, and fun. Explain the gamemode and "the mission". Also state local time and atmospheric conditions.

5) Make the MWO taskbar icon flash when voting starts.

6) Enjoy.

It's a cunning plan to distract us from the game play issues.

Wait times may be better for some, but I'm still getting minutes of waiting. I roll with it. What tends to happen these days though is you get the same map over and over and over as the same limited player base votes for the same few maps every time they see them. Most favour light, fast builds. Funny that. Not much fun being a Dire pilot at the moment.

I agree with you, truly.. but really fail to see how that has ANYTHING to do with my OP idea? :P

Plenty of voting whine threads out there.. please don't turn this into one..

I'm hoping for some constructive solutions on how we can solve the issue, not about how PGI sucks, how the game sucks, or what the issue is. We know all that.

Let's give the Dev's ideas, not criticism. ;)

Good luck with that. I'll leave you to it.

Why not remove the choice/voting entirely and just pick a random map and mode?

That's what I would prefer.

Well I'm guessing there's a reason for the voting to be introduced into the game in the first place..

People like to have the illusion of "choice"..

I like it to, but not when it is clear that it's only an illusion, and maintaining the illusion effectively removes the choice..

ok but in your example you can potentially bring LRMs and pick city, bog, canyon, caustic.... and those maps have objectively less cover than the alternatives that you cited

bring the full team LRM + narcs

no choice at all would be better for the game

then have a fake voting screen where your vote is always trumped by a non-existent 'majority'

I have yet to see a map where LRM's aren't usefull.. and people will always say they suck anyway.. The point is you would not know what map you're choosing before you hit launch, so if you brought LRM's you could end up choosing between saay, Bog and HPG (where LRM's are less effective)

On the other hand, you could get to pick between Torumaline and Canyon, where LRM's are great, and the AC crew would be in trouble..

The point is to group similar maps, so you don't get to choose between saaay, Terra and Alpine, where alpine would win every time.. Instead you get alpine and frozen (both cold) or terra and caustic (both hot), or river and crimson (both high cover and brawly).

For me, LRM's are usefull on EVERY map.. so are lasers.. so are AC's.. and gauss... and ppc's...

When I speak of the illusion of choice, I mean that out of the dosen maps, the "illusion" is letting you have the honor of "choice" between two.

Real choice would be if you could pick a map before you hit "Play now", but we all know the MM can't handle that yet.. (Whole other can of worms)

We already have. That majority is called the rest of the lobby.
