Just checked out the latest dev vlog where they mentioned implementing rudimentary AI to enemy mechs in the tutorial and they also mentioned the possibility of fleshing out the code in the future.
Could this be paving the way for a single player campaign or similar further down the line?

Would love to see some sort of survival mode where you drop in to fight endless streams of AI mechs and keep a high score of enemies eliminated.

It's been mentioned before in the town halls, so possibly. Russ isn't opposed to the idea, it seems.

Single player campaign will be a waste. Who would play through it more than once? I know some of these book lore people will but still, such a waste of resources. Hopefully they charge for it to fleece those who want it. I usually don't play campaigns unless they shove unlocks for multiplayer in them.

The truth burns as much as the sun, but not as much as a laser targeted at a range of 66m! will get you.

Seriously? 66m? I have Pellet guns that shoot further than that.

They'll do PVE proper justice and make a fun single-player like they have with multiplayer, and exciting times are in store

The amount of people who wanted MechWarrior 5 singer player are legion. I know if there was a decent single option on MWO that would be where I would be spending my time and money. But we were forced to settle.

I would much rather have single player, or better yet co-op PVE than what we have now. I would be great to have a campaign to play through, from just before the Clan invasion, on through, just keeping pace with the timeline... Maybe even buy the missions as a DLC of sort? I can't imagine PGI developing it without some sort of monetary gain in mind...

I want to see first that they implement a new game modes involving dynamic objectives AND computer controlled opponents (infantries, tanks, mechs, and whatnot). This would make the existence of those bigger maps meaningful and would pave the way for more complex and dynamic gameplay and less of an "arena shooter".

With the rate HBS's Battletech is going... PGI will have NO CHOICE but to make a fully fledged Single Player or Co-Op campaign, since once Battletech hits release, MWO servers will be EMPTY!

So they better make that MW5 a reality if they want to stay in the BT game business..

My guess would be that they scatter the PVE elements all over MWO, and make it so that you HAVE TO play regular MWO to get PVE unlocks..

Similar to some other MMO games, you would have to hit a certain tier, buy a certain mech, or win a certain planet to unlock a certain Campaign.

Making us buy the campaigns would be a total waste.. yes, founders and rich kids would buy, but no one else..

Better to make warriors "Pay for expenses" or "Bid for glory of attending" a campaign in c-bills (like 20 million or something)

This is a no brainer for everyone.

PvE campaign can be sold and hoard mode adds to the options of how to play.

The development of AI for the PvE can then be ported over to PvP. It has to be easier to start to write AI for a controlled environment like a PvE campaign than PvP

What? hell...
The engine is ready, mechs are ready, give me a good single player campaign with action, story, cinematcis and I am willing to bring the dollars. If its good!

I enjoy PVP but It would be a good diversion.

Coop...
Maybe play campaign maps with convoy escort missions in PVP..... The possibilities....

Single player campaign is probably out of the question, but I would love it if PGI put some rudimentary AI in the Tutorial section so I can practice shooting mechs that are running, twisting, jumping etc...as well as practicing twisting while getting hit by AI mechs. ;)

Why should they do that? MWO is a totally different game and not comparable to a turn-based game. It won't steal any customers unless we have MWO players who dislike multiplayer but then I ask why they are here at all.

Some tanks or mechs for CW ghost drops and training grounds would be nice.

It will probably be some kind of survival waves as it takes significantly less resources(and efforts) to make than an entire campaign like the previous Mechwarrios titles.

For those who claim that a single player campaign speak for themselves and not for anyone else. I would go back frequently and run freelancer and see if i could accomplish it in different methods with a lot of fun. Plus since hbs is looking to create a procedural "infinite" campaign mode from my understanding pgi will need to do the same or be left in the dust.

Competition for cash is a powerful force.

I would suggest that if they finally do make the decision to add MW5 single Player!,.. that they coordinate with the Battletech game developers so that their story line content overlaps. By doing this it feeds Players playing for immersion expansion of Storyline. I know they are sharing artwork but the 2 games can complement each other and draw in revenues if they advertise about each others product on their sites.

Example in MWO Campaign 1 , ( made up ) You are a Frontline unit Battlemech warrior fighting for House Steiner the main character and unit may be shared in both games in single player missions or refer to each other in cinematic content,...doing this feeds lore as well as makes both games expansionary complementing each other.
