First post - despite being with MWO since open beta! I thought I'd wade into actually contributing to the forums rather than standing at the sidelines for a change. I've had a bit of a hiatus from the game since the clans first came out, before the PGI/IGP split, before the infamous quirks....

My impressions on coming back to the game after a long break are... that it's actually rather good.

I actually like CW.... It's like MWO's - 'Hard Mode'. Okay most of the time I get my behind handed to me by a 12 / 10 / 8 man team on the other side - but I don't mind so long as I can inflict as much damage to them as possible before I go down. When I do win I relish the experience all the more.

Voting - It's annoying to get Frozen City / Alpine Peaks in a more or less perpetual cycle of icy-themed maps. Simply reducing the voting choices to 2 or 3 would limit the chances of getting the same old maps over and over. I'm living with it in the meantime.

Ghost heat was around when I left - but is still slightly bemusing. Not so many pop-tarts now (which is good - I hated MW4 MP for that reason alone). Lots of laser boating - but there is still room to experiment in load-outs. The flamer seems to be as utterly useless in MWO as it was in games before - so at least some things are consistent.

Many Clan mechs are plainly more potent and dangerous than IS counterparts pound for pound. End of discussion. This is coming from a player like me who has only just returned to the game and who tends to play far too aggressively and to get himself killed far too often far too early. I can jump in a Timber Wolf or Ebon Jaguar and wreak untold mayhem in ways which I never could in the IS heavies. It is slightly offset by the higher c-bill grind in order to buy and outfit clan mechs - but the omni-pod versatility, clan XL and weapons advantages are still very much there. Perhaps we need a greater post-match credits bonus for those using IS-tech? Incentivise playing the underdog?

I've actually decided to switch to IS mechs in a week or two and play things from the other side of the hill for a few months. I'm looking forward to the Warhammer and Marauder irrespective of how good they actually are compared to the 'meta'.

The forum community is .....vocal. The obsession with the 'meta' is on a par with the obsession with arty in World of Tanks - what other players do is up to them. However it's far less toxic and confrontational than that found in WoT. Helped no doubt by the dubious value of the PSR as a metric and so avoiding any meaningful stat-bashing. Fuzzy and dubious stats are good - it stops people from getting too holier-than-thou.

Those a just a few observations from someone coming back into the game - but none of the above detracts from the fact that I enjoy playing the game each evening. Yes it has it's shortcomings, failings and oversights - but as an overall experience I'm liking this game and I like what the devs have done in the time I've been away. I just hope that the new clan IICs don't sabotage my intended Spheroid defection....

Now feel free to rip apart the above sentiments and arguments in 3.... 2.... 1.

OK...you asked for it.

Everything you said is pretty fair. I could nitpick, but it's not worth it.

Sorry if that hurt. As a Canadian I apologize for everyone.

Clans mechs are suppose to be superior to their IS counterparts.
However PGI should have kept to Lore on this one.
Tabletop 1 Clan star vs 1 IS Company or 5 vs 12.
Which I'll admit may now work well in a FPS.
What they could do is the Clan Star plus maybe 8 clanker mechs vs. 12 IS mech.
Let the clankers be the superior mechs, but they should have equal numbers in the game.
Which would work wonders for CW i'd bet.

Dual CUAC10s on a 50 ton mech. That's all you need to know about the IIC, before defecting to the Clan side.

No argument from me - It would be interesting to fight as part of a numerically superior force against less people armed with better weaponry and visa versa. Dire Wolf pilots might find themselves getting focused even more than they do now. (Not that you see DWs in CW that often anyway).

Must stay strong....

For one thing, I'm satisfied that it doesn't crash within my first ten minutes now. So I can actually return! Yay!

Also, in a 12 man you can now take 24 Gauss rifles up from the previous max of 18 (6 Gaussavens and 6 Dual Guass Jags, or 6 Gauss Adders and 6 Dual Gauss Ebon Jags)
