During most matches, after a player dies, many disconnect, but there are a few of us who spectate, and go into MechCommander Mode.
We call out for help when a teammate is alone in combat and can't call for help themselves.
We jump from mech to mech to see where the enemy is, and call it out for the team to target.
We point out where and when resources or bases are being capped when our teammates are busy hunting targets.
When done right, and responded to, it can often turn the tide of battle in many matches.

If it is implemented, I couldn't see a penalty for not doing it, as few people enjoy spectating.
It would be nice to be rewarded for helping the team to win, or at least, for trying to help get a win.

I think I saw somewhere, someone brought up an Idea similar to this one. Sounds way cool!, but I think other people complained that spectators could use it to cheat, to see enemies hiding behind hills, rocks, and stuff. Oh well, at least we basically get it in private matches.

Note: It would be cool to make a MechCommander GameMode! Tonnage Limit of 300, bring whatever mechs you want, but control them all through a Third Person prespective (meaning each individual mech has an AI), just like as if you were playing the old MechCommander!

I'm not talking about seeing the battlefield as in the MechCommander games, just while spectating through the eyes of my teammate's mechs on the battlefield.
A few days ago I realized that by spectating, and calling out to my teammates, I was actually acting as a MechCommander.

Yeah, I know that. The MechCommander thing just made my mind wander, and that's what popped into my head. Forgive me if I derailed your topic a little bit........

If they did add the spectating thing, say to the public games, I wonder how they would regulate it/prevent abusive behavior..........

Well, they've had spectating for quite a while. Implementing a "MechCommander Mode" reward could be problematic, but it would be nice.

Would be awesome to add. Devs could have the commander of each side would only visually see icons of what his team has currently spotted (same way the militarty does it nowadays). He could still see what a pilot sees through his helmet, but could go into a sateilite view and only see what their teams radar picks up. The battlegrid would help the mechcommander too.

Examples while in mechcommander mode...

Team A, Pilot 23 spots a hostile, named Hostile 1
Mechcommander gets a unknown hostile radar contact (Hostile 1)
Pilot 23 locks target
Mechcommander get detailed information about contact limited to what Pilot 23 has for sensors
Hostile 1 moves out of visual and sensor range of pilot 23
Mechcommander and Pilot 23 loses all sensor and visual information.

This would be of course all serverside, as it has to be could be hacked by client for wall-hacks otherwise, Add a option in for a spot as mechcommander on each side when joining a game maybe?.
