We need to stop laser vomit, but the PTS idea doesn't seem popular, so how about really playing up weapon roles?


Lasers are for melting off armor, so suppose instead of the PTS modifications, we make two changes. First, lasers and PPCs suffer a -20% nerf to damage to structure. Second, lasers do not cause criticals at all. PPCs may only crit ammo bins.


Ballistics and missiles would retain their PTS modifications. This lets lasers keep their role of softening up opponents, but it encourages players to mount additional weapons systems to exploit holes in armor.


A laser vomit mech would excel at tearing away armor, but would have trouble taking a mech down. A mech mounting an array of lasers, ballistics and SRMs would be far more effective.




Note that energy only mechs may still make kills, but they are less effective once an opponent's armor has been melted away. To get around this, consider friends.

I think its not bad idea. May be not so radical. May be laser can get bonus damage to fibro armor, for example. Ballistik can get more chance to destroy enemy weapon. Rockets to jam weapon, or explode ammo. And in combination with idea of various manufacturers of weapon it can be good. different version of same weapon(and modules may be) can have slightly different stats. If u want lasers, piercing armor and dealing damage to structure - take more heat. Or (may be its would better) than more distance - than less damage to structure u can deal by energy weapon. And different types of armor well enter such concept.
And also differrent type of c.a.s.e. ferro-fibro good against rockets and ballissitk, reflecting armor good against lasers. PPC its just electromagnetic clot. it can deal more damage to structure, but minimum damage to armor. In that case with only ppc u cant kill someone fast, u need to destroy armor with something else.

Yes, all that have only 1 problem - its difficult to calculate all damage in battle. But, any way, now in most cases i can't understand how i was killed. Death screen have'not calculation diagrams, information about critical damage.

I don't understand this obsessive drive over "balance". Why? Why don't you like laser mechs? Because they keep killing you? Play better. Why don't you like LRM boats? Because they keep killing you? Play better. Why don't you like jump-gauss builds? They keep killing you? Etc...

Every argument about balance has been in it's entirety a whine about how people have figured out how to exploit the most damage from one combination or another and, instead of learning how to overcome it, they want it knocked down a notch.

There is ZERO need to try and make all the players enter the field on equal terms.

I dont like laser mechs? i'm play on various, and half of my hungar its laser mechs. And as laser mech driver i can say: laser alpha its a problem. I dont know why. May be its a hit reg, may be its a critical damage. I dont know. But its necessary to do something with that. Moreover, forget about laser. Role based weapon balance can solve problem of OP builds of 3xgauss or lrm 80. When without skill player can deal a lot of damage and make oneshots.




Why a dont like laser mechs? Because lots of noob with laser alpha in game now.
Why i hate lrms? Because lots of lrmnoobs with lrm in game now. Even on lights. E[color=#525252]specially in event time. Cause 90% of lrm go to the legs. Cause for that moment only shelter, or 4x ams can save u from lrm.[/color]
[color=#525252]Why i hate jumping-gause?...i dont hate jumping gauss..But a hate 4xgauss assault, killng me in oneshot from other corner of map. But its problem of long sensors range, unbalanced maps, and, [/color]of course player who dont use a shelters.

lol if the unskilled players are killing you with laser builds and 4x Gauss setups from across the map...what does that say about your skill?

This is a combat sim. There is ZERO need to try and make all the players enter the field on equal terms.

Where u see i write about 4xgauss noobs? And where u see i write its a problem? May be its my bad emglish, but:

means i think if u killed by 4xgauss its not cause 4xgauss is OP. Its means u have low skill, or u play on unbalanced map. For example Alpine Picks.

But any way, 4xgauss, 8xlrm20, 90xppc and other oneshot boat configuration its sad. Zero imagination, zero skill. 90% players on that buids make alpha and rest in shutdown. Usually that players have a low teamwork and just stealing kills.
