"Ghost range": a very intresting change, yet that has a few problems:
- Pros: you no longer get insta-killed by huge alphas at 600+ meters just for looking over a ridge. It's a nerf on laser sniping, a game-style with 0 risks (except against other laser snipers) and lots of rewards.
- Cons: small and medium lasers (expecially IS ones) are hit HARD. Lights have a lot of trouble hit and running and peek-a-boo-ing, which is not good. It's also waaaaay too convoluted, with weird numbers that go all over the place. It would be nicer if lasers where less hit the smaller they were, ad if the % could be easier to calculate on the fly.
I still hope for a complete overhaul of the skill tree with actual choices, but i can go with this one (at least for now).
IW: very intresting, works fine and makes fights a lot more chaotic. I've seen countless mechs move behind opponents without being noticed thanks to the absence of a dorito for a few seconds.
Makes communication even more important.
Two thumbs up.
SRM/SSRM changes: hitreg on SRMs on the PTS is better than on the live servers, so they work pretty well and the speed boost greatly improves on them. We still need a hit-reg fix though. Boated c-SSRM are now even more lethal for light mechs, and the targeting delay does nothing if the boat carries a TAG.
In short: SRM buff i like; SSRM buff, i'm not a fan.
Reticle changes: i really don't like them. Feedback is VITAL in a video-game. I'm never sure i hit something in a brawl when i have to quickly look away from my opponent after shooting SRMs or ACs. It's very annoying to not have feedback on shots on not locked on opponents.
I don't like the new reticle UI either: i prefer color coding rather than form changes.
Would be nice if we could choose between the two, though.
4v4: is awesome. I want it in the live server ASAP. Very brawl-centric, very fun, very hard if you are up against good opponents. TTK goes WAY up (might be the quirks too, really can't tell).
General balance: bad mechs without quirks are VERY bad. Some mechs will still need them (just no 50% cooldown quirks next time please!) In 4v4 bringing a bad mech that you are not super awesome at is very bad for the team.
I'm not a supergood player, and bringing an Urbie resulted in disaster.
Good mechs are still good.
Gauss rifle cooldown increase seems like a good idea, but i have not tested it.
Haven't tried LRMs (not an expert user anyway).
TLDR: most changes are cool, ghost range requires tweaks, but it's intresting. Please give us back hit-markers in all situations.
P.S.: thanks to all that i dropped with on the PTS. Matches with you were a lot of fun!
