STD 240 is gonna make you extremely slow... 71kph on a 60 ton mech won't get you very far. Consider going with an XL engine. Do what you want, but the extra speed and weight savings from an XL enabling you to carry more firepower will save you a lot more frequently than the side torso durability.

Couple weeks in and I've elited all four variants, and all have positive K/D ratios. Two are carrying 2xAC10, 2xML and STD 240; the LK has an AC10, an LB10X, 2xML and STD240, and the 5D has 2xLPL, 2xML, STD 255. I have tried the XL, and that just makes it too fragile for my mid/short range brawler play style. I've had a LOT of matches where I got an ST blown off on an XL check but stayed in the match-surprise!-with a 15-point shot to the CT I stripped on the way in. I play as sidekick to assaults and big heavies, so the 71kph speed works fine. Your mileage may vary.

If I stay off the lasers I've noticed that the AC10s get in a lot of volleys before heat builds too high, even on hot maps. I'm thinking now that AC10 heat is a little high, you shouldn't shut down if all you're shooting are two AC10s, but part of that is only being able to carry one external heat sink.

RFL-5D, 4x ERLL (1CT, 3RA or 3LA to your preference), XL 280, and you're freakin' welcome. Just don't alpha.

OR, RFL-5D, 2x ML (CT), 3x PPC (LA or RA, to your preference), XL 280. Not practical, but FUN!

The only one I still go XL on is the 3c, I'm still stuck on dual AC10s, but I was able to do STD 260 AC20 4ml (I'll edit in a smurfy build later Edit: here you go RFL-3C ). The same build can be done on the 3n, but I'm currently testing Gauss Vomit on it. (Due to quirks, I think 3c is actually better at AC20 simply due to the range buff, but that's just me) 5d I run in cw is a Large Las boat, but in pugs I run the 2xppc + small Las build I saw on NGNG.

Edit 2: And Sister RAbbi, 3 PPCs? Please never build this. I basically wondered if you could do a 'dire star' with this mech, sadly we can't, the CT isn't even big enough to mount a PPC, and 60 damage is not enough of an alpha strike to GUARANTEE FOR SURE kill another mech, so it's not even worth the lulz. We can do a wubrifle pretty easy, but there's plenty of those builds circulating by now.

RFL-3C 4.13 K/D
STD250, 2xUAC5 (5 tons), 4xML

RFL-3N 1.11 K/D (had a bad streak with him in limited number of matches, used to be more like the others)
STD280, AC20 (4 tons), 4xML

LEGEND-KILLER 3.14 K/D
XL280, 2xLB10X (3 tons), 4xML

I think that's my current setup for the Riflemen I use regularly in pugland (frontload your armor to taste). Legend Killer somehow magically does better than it ought to. With LB10X cooldown module it actually fires pretty darn fast and can be a lot of fun. Wouldn't take it anywhere near competitive matches though of course :)

The laser one I'm not hugely fond of, not enough weight for heat sinks IMO.

Thats what I run. Nice, but glass cannon. With AC/20 range module, you get 351 meters.
