so essentially: when you are in a 12man, or as close to a 12man as possible.
then it really shines, cause you can select your map, your mode, everything is awesome.
right now when i am pugging though?
skirmish 90% of the time, and mostly only the cold maps.
i wanna get to know the newer maps better!

describes the voting system at best:
don't allow a choice at all - or allow a choice where players have a choice
So - complete random in game mode and map
or player chooses map x and game mode y - and he get game mode y and map x)

I will pay for a game that has decent content and company that manages it properly. MechWarrior has neither.
Right now, Planetside is doing better than mech warrior

both look promising.
havent seen any FPS's that really appeal to me, but still looking.
I will say this, I havent really looked at any new or upcoming games in awhile, so I can thank PGI for giving me a good excuse.

I have no idea how well this would work, but I'm going to throw it out there.
You don't choose your mech right away. When you begin the process to join a game, you choose a weigh class (light,medium, heavy, assault). Then,the game goes through its matchmaking. (For matchmaking purposes, I'd have the game assume 30 tons for light, 50 tons for medium, 70 tons for heavy, and 90 tons for assault). When the game matching is done, you are told what map and game mode you're getting and now you can choose one of mechs in the weight class you initially chose. You are given, say 60 seconds to choose your mech (if you don't choose one, the system will choose one for you...so mech roulette if you want).
The team balance shouldn't be too far off given those assumed values. It returns to seeing and reacting to all of the game's maps, but still giving the players agency to deal with a given map.

Voting for maps thus far seems to only server as a way to find out what four maps are everyone's favorite. At least it seems like I play the same four over and over again, with a random one thrown in every 20 matches or so.
What I see as the actual problem is you have no idea where you are dropping or where. Lets face it, if we were heading into a real battle we would know where we were going before we got there. That is what needs to accounted for in my mind.
The number one thing they could do, IMHO, is to show a map on the drop screen of where you and your teammates are dropping. You could then start to coordinate before you hit the ground.
The number two thing they could, which is much harder, would be to allow you to select a mech weight class instead of a mech. Then when you get in the queue for a specific map you could then pick which mech in that class you would bring. This would allow you to have a few load outs ready for different environments (or not, but the choice would be yours).
Both of those would make it much more realistic. You'd gain about a minute of prep time, which could correlate to battle planning, and you would be able to have a mech designed for the environment. If they got really fancy, the coordination could take place before you had to select the exact chassis you would drop in.
Again, I don't know how feasible any of that is, but it would make the game a bit more strategic.
Regardless of how this aspect of the game changes or if it stays the same I am going to play it and enjoy it. Mostly cause I already like it and love everything about the BattleTech Universe. And also because I don't want to design my own game that would suck. I'd rather play this game that is very good! LOL

Nerfing / "balancing" mechs/weapon types, the meta constantly changing, as a gamer ive come to expect that to never end, and I tend not to get involved.
Ive been a member of these forums for over 2 years, and this is the first time ive been vocal about any issue. I think its at least partially due to how long Ive been playing, and waiting for the game to really improve.... its been a SLOW process, and definitely frustrating at times. It feels like the game is moving backwards now, removing modes,.. maps... that i enjoy, and not replacing them with anything,.... just Skirmish over and over
I think i also always assumed PGI cared about the concerns of its players, and im kinda wishing i would have cried and *!itched alot earlier and found out that, Nope... PGI could care less about.
450+ votes, and tons of threads/posts, and not one word from PGI.

el bandito voting should be removed completely, not just left for those of us w/out units. My time to play this game is limited, and Id rather play assault or conquest as i prefer those modes, because they have tactical value where mindless call of duty style skirmishing does not. I do not desire to be forced to play a mode i hate with what little time i DO have just because voting was left in. No. voting must go.

nobody's forcing you to boat hot brawling weapons; and maybe you can learn to manage your heat as well

this "reconnaisance" of the planet all it's doing is encouraging the type of build that pgi had to implement ghost heat to get rid of.
back then it was 6 ppc; now it's 6 lasers. except back then even the 6ppc stalker ran into a hot map every now and then. what we have now is complete mindlessness
so in hot maps your mech is not optimal so? then tweak your loadout or get good.
why do we have to see 24 laser mechs in the cold map? or 24 gauss mechs in the open map?
how totally lame that this is what you want to do. less variety is better for the game is that it?

besides it is not like what you claim you see the map and use your loadout it's the opposite right now
you choose your loadout and then choose where you will be dropped off.
100% senseless. and pretty lazy to boot - now your cut and paste loadout you got online just cannot fail when the map is not cooperative right??

dude as i sayd - with that vote system we need 20-30 maps, random game mode, and choose from 2 maps! so right now i think, the vote system must gone for a while.

But on the other hand i'd like to play canyon network more, my favourite map but it almost never shows up now.
Game mode wise i have conquest permanently turned off but now occasionally i have to play it.
It's just another case of PGI ignoring the waves of complaints about something (like hit reg) and tinkering and breaking something that no-one was whining about in the first place. They either don't have a clue about the direction of the game, they don't give a toss and just play spin the wheel or Simon (Russ) Sais or they're being deliberately antagonistic and belligerent trying to wind up the old player base enough to make them ********** before they try start anew on steam.......Good luck.
Which is a shame cos there is potential in this game but in the current hands is completely lost.

I equate it to the Star Wars Nerd (i'm one) who just complained innocently about the prequels but still spent billions of dollars on them. Maybe PGI should do what George did: "Fine. But my movie, with my name on it, that says I did it, needs to be the way I want it."
Anyway I digress.
I also feel I should point out that PGI does a great job of listening to the community. And many community members do a good job with constructive criticism. Not 8!tching, but actually providing feedback.
This could be one of those cases where constructive feedback is needed and 8!tching left out.
I will honestly admit that I am not sure exactly what the voting system is supposed to accomplish or why it was implemented. I can see it being a great thing in many ways, but also bad in others. So far the bad is it seems like certain maps and game modes are being completely left out (or vary rarely show up now).
For me that is bad because I like playing all the maps, they all have different challenges and change the way I play a bit.
Although I will say that I have noticed a few more interesting details since my earlier post. I do think the voting system can help better coordinated teams. If you drop in a group of 6 or so in a pug match, you can pretty much get which ever map you vote for. The other night I dropped with a group of buddies in pug matches, we all made sure to vote for the same map. It was interesting because we got our choice 9 out of 10 times. And this includes Terra Therma several times, which shocked me. My guess is most people have stopped voting and others maybe voting to try to get the right answer?
I will add that Terra Therma is becoming my favorite map now. I think it is because in a group that manages heat well you have an advantage when you force people who think they are going to play on Alpine Ridge to drop in that hotbox. At least that is how it has seemed.
At any rate I'd just like to see all maps get played equally. Game mode was less important to me because I always left them all selected when that was an option. And if this voting system does indeed alleviate stress on the match making system and gets you into matches faster then I am all for it. Faster drops = more games played and less time staring at nothing!
