How about we get away from the Atlas walking like a lamer through the enemy. Lets update Escort to where one of the Assaults in the game run by a player is designated the Escort?

Can we do that :)

Making a human player be the VIP sounds good on paper, but in practice there be some issues:

>Disconnected players, AFKs
>Complete potatoes
>Shutting down in a corner to hide, even early on
>Makes it way faster to kill the VIP unless they're in an Annilator

How about we just remove Escort from the mode pool, period?

They did it once because it was broken
They half fixed it...but I'd rather not play the game at all, than to play Escort in its current state

If I were a pgi intern i'd accidentally hit delete on the next patch on escort and there would be much rejoicing. Too bad pgi won't do jack **** with it. Defenders still have no idea where the derp will go unless some one has the end point memorized. All the defenders really need to fix 90% of escort is add in a stop/go function for the defenders to keep it from suicide into that very obvious fire line.

All you need to kill the vip are two mechs with 60-70 alphas and it is dead. Linebackers with laser vomit work particularly well at vip killing especially when they are spec into mobility for 100kph speed and fire power.

Counter-Strike 1.5 did have a VIP mode where a player took control of the VIP. In that case the VIP received 200% armour over the regular 100%, but was limited to a USP Tactical .45 with only 2 spare mags. As I recall only 2 maps had it. One being Oil Rig. But being the VIP was never popular.

With that said, I do like escort mode. Like others have said, replace the Atlas with a mobile command base and that should make more sense to the players.

Other was high rise.

I'm fine with it being an atlas, i'm not fine that it's an idiot fat-*** that wouldn't even shoot.

I agree that there are challenges to it being a human player, but a disconnect could easily be resolved even during the match while running to ensure that the player has connected and is not afk. I am sure its about 100 lines of code or less. The running away, well he is the VIP he can do what he wants its a risk. I would say in real life its the same way, if the VIP acts stupid... welp... It would be more challenging at least than a mech that has like 2 or 3 routes he takes..

Aside from the potential disconnect should the player act as the VIP. The VIP should be given two optional paths. Way points are added and the VIP must reach each way point (way point Alpha, Beta, etc) within a given time. Bonus points for reaching on time and no bonus if not. This keeps the VIP from deviating from the true objective.

You could score players as VIP by how many times they successfully made it to extraction alive, then asign the VIP role to the highest scored player on each team. Prevents 'taters and 'tards from getting VIP.

My biggest complaint on Escort is the ECM/sensor nodes making flanking attacks difficult (at best) to pull off.

I'd probably remove the turrets, change the sensor nodes to be destructible, and add twin AMS to the VIP.

I can't help but think there might be other ways to fix/spice-up the mode, but that's what I've got right now.

The biggest issue with Escort is definitely the AI. They should at least give some command-wheel options to guide the VIP like
"Hold": VIP stays put for a few seconds (let's say 10)
"Follow": VIP walks towards the mech that issued the command for a few seconds (again, let's say 10)
"Twist": VIP starts torso-twisting left and right, probably not useful but might be good for a laugh

I'm tempted to say Escort could work better in Scouting than Quickplay. At least there it wouldn't get focused down by 12 mechs when it inevitably decides to facetank the entire opfor.

Another issue is just finding the VIP mech.

Replacing it with a mobile command center would make a lot of sense and help separate it from all the other mechs on the field.

Unless you have fast light mechs to scout right now chances are your team will get caught up in a deathmatch until its too late and the enemy team wins because VIP mech got too far.

Actually Escort could have been great, a convoy, a group of high ranking officials... Something worth escorting with some actual defense...

but we got a drunk Atlas pilot that is blind..

So what would the code do if someone was assigned to be the VIP and that player disconnects halfway through the match?

Kill it, burn it, smash it... destroy this game mode with extreme prejudice.. and purge all related code. Awful game mode.

Lol, Escort.

> Create game-mode where Lights have an explicit purpose
> Place two obstacles that prevent Lights from fulfilling that purpose
> Doesn't matter, VIP is braindead anyway

VIP has great potential. It's an alternative to just team deathmatch.

No, it is team deathmatch.

You either proactively seek out the attackers to intercept and kill them before they get to the VIP or you fight it out around the VIP and try to kill them before they can drill that armor.

Conquest is really the only game mode that has a valid objective.
