I do a lot of my testing in Canyon to see how heat is managed. So when I loaded up the test and saw nobody on, I tested there. The first mech you run across is a Centurion, with it's back to you. It's easy to kill it a full speed by coring it from behind. First couple of tests I did not really notice anything different. But, on the third test, I noticed that I saw an explosion, but the mech was still there with everything intact. Further testing I determined that when you destroy all of the back armor for a torso section, it explodes. I checked on live server and that does not happen.

Not sure if it was mentioned, and I did not see any other forum posts regarding it.

I kind of like the added visuals to know that you successfully removed the back armor. I also am thinking that I might not like it. With the proposed targeting changes, you might not have target lock on a mech and think the exploding back armor was a kill shot. During fast paced exchanges you could think you killed or heavily damaged a mech, when actually you did very little.

What are your thoughts on this change?

I did notice this but I don't think it will be a problem. It's not much different then what happens when you blow off a component. Besides the enemy mech is still standing and in the live server will still be moving and shooting at you.

Further testing I noticed the following mechs all exhibited this:

Cent
CTF
CDA
Atlas
CPLT

But, the Awesome did not. Not sure why.
