Just did a game where the enemy lost five mechs in total, but my team's scoreboard had only three total kills and several guys with four assists.

One of the lost mechs could have been a disconnect, granted. But how did we get three total kills with people having four assists? Could one damaged enemy have blown up from overheating granting an assist but no kill? Sorry if this seems like a silly question but it's the first time I've noticed numbers not adding up, probably because in bloodier engagements I can't tally them in my head fast enough. ;)

Override. Or other PGI approved suicide method, but usually, it's someone overriding to secure a kill or go down swinging. They die, yes, and some gets a kill most damage dealt and everyone who should gets a kill assist, but since no one secured the kill, it's not counted as such.

Another reason could be a team kill, whether intentional or not.

...or losing the last bit of internal damage on your last leg to a bad jump.
