Simple question, I've never been good at building mechs or seeing if they're worth anything.
However, I tried out a trial mech with 3 LPLs and I thought something similiar might work on a Dragon.
Is this build any good as a light hunter of sorts? I'm sure it could be improved, but I'd like to know if it's a start at least

Is This Dragon 1C Build Any Good?

Its going to feel underpowered, but you are on the right track.
When I build a mech 40% heat efficiency is the number I want to be around. Dragon front CT is a bullet magnet, so you are going to want to frontload your armor.
If you enjoyed the 3 LPL's the Dragon can replicate it quite well. Modifying off your build I would do this DRG-1C. You could also use use 4 large lasers or 4 large pulse if you are comfortable with the heat.
Not pulse based, but this ride used to be my main squeeze back in the day DRG-1C. Remove the missiles and add ferro for max speed DRG-1C.

As a fan of not spending cbills unnecessarily and being more efficient with weight consumption... as well as 'insulating' your weapons so that they don't break before the arm or side torso does...
I've done this. Dragon 1C modification. The cockpit is a very small target on a mech that bounces... headshots aren't a terrible concern. The doubleheatsinks have been thrown into the same side as the weapons in order to insulate and protect. I didn't change the engine though I think its size is absolutely insane. I've also reallocated the armor to better protect against oncoming fire from the front.
(Seriously, my Hunchback's right torso without quirks has 46 armor front, 2 armor rear, and then after quirks it's amazingly tankable... your Dragon at 10 tons heavier... had only 38 front...with front torsos THAT big? There's more surface area on the Dragon's side torso than the Hunchback's hunch! Protect it! For comparison, my Hunchback's left torso is 24 armor front and 24 armor back, but that's because LT's hitbox is very even front to back, and I let people nail my left torso when I retreat as that's my "spare" side. Since you're in an XL engine; you don't really HAVE that "spare" side option...)
That said, I know the idea is to let people hit your "spare" right side. This can work for and against you. If the idea does not pan out, channel even more armor to the front and take advantage of "CTRL + mouse" aiming also known as "Arm-Aiming." The Dragon is one of the mechs that are highly qualified for this style of combat and it works very well for the hit and run attack method. Run in a diagonal line from the enemy, use the arms to "concentrate" fire on the enemy's critical systems. Use the torso weapons mainly as a "spare" or for emergencies.
I personally favor a twin ML + AC/10 build, with backup MPLs for that "finishing touch." Alternatively an LBX-10 + twin LPL works great too, but that can't be done with the insane engine size you've gone with. My personal Dragons might be a bit slower, but with my method of fighting that speed won't be sorely missed...as that speed makes it harder to aim.
(Trial Dragon... combat with the Hunchback especially emphasizes the tricks of arm-aiming.)
This is a Dragon 5N. But it runs another common build of mine. MGs can be altered out for 2 SPLs or 3 SLs to make compatible with a 1C.
I actually have a lot of Dragon videos up with various builds, as well as footage of other dragon pilots that are grouped up with me (little harder to find) if you wind up getting curious for ideas.
My favorite build ever, however, was this one.

Thanks everyone, I've had a difficult time trying build a Dragon that works, and I'll definitely try the different builds that have been posted here.

If not too late, my Dragon 1C, I dubbed "Faithful" has ran a Guass, 4x med lasers, and Srm 6 on a 320XL engine for longer than I can remember. strip armor from legs to account for the rest of the load.
Dragons are suited to Fire Support role, adding to engagements but never being the point man for them. I am reasonably successful shadowing an assault, firing with guass while they are looking at him, and then panic with the four lasers and SRM alpha when something gets close, or it's time to finish the deal.
Good luck.
