Why do people build so hot with lasers, then play cold maps 80% of the time? Isn't it shedding the fun of the game a little by limiting it's play styles?
Is the above wrong in some way?
I find the larger the drop I'm with the more hate given if you want to select the hot maps, but some of them are really interesting designs imho, that give a whole different approach to the engagement.
I do tend to feel this is only one way the game is "thinned down", from it's potential.

Curious About Maps.

Laser vomit is OP
Colder maps are more forgiving to laser vomit
I stopped voting a week ago. All that matters is what kind of team I'm given.

I will just start off by saying, Ballistic is my weapon of choice (with energy secondary). But really map choice for me comes down to how many tons of fog, or thousands of trees are placed in front of me. Engagement is basically the same every match, Run too mount doom (terra therma), candy hill (alpine peeks), whatever you want to call theta marker on canyon.
Laser vomit is "OP" right now because it goes in balancing cycles. You may not have been around for the days of the 4x srm6 awesome, 3x lrm15 atlas, 5x ac2 jager, 2x ppc w/gauss highlander. The list goes on.... Balancing has always been the issue. doesn't matter, 100+ playable variants and only 5-10 being used. The quirk system is a nice improvement (will be better when improved). But until balance is worked out between chassis, clan, IS, variant. You have to get used to the current META if you want to "try hard".
Regardless, I say just bring what you want and have fun. I bring scrub mechs all the time because I get bored of the same 2-3 that I always run. Run what you want and have fun.

It's the unfortunate nature of a game like this.
Most of the players are more interested in the competitive nature of doing whatever they can to win. And to a lot of people, that's the only reason they play a game.

Honestly? Lots of people liked to turn off heat in MW4 multiplayer. I think this is a similar mindset. Granted, it WAS pretty fun to stuff a ridiculous number of ERLLs into a Nova Cat and go to town, but still.

I build for what makes said mech perform best or what is fun for me at the time. Depending upon map I adjust my play style accordingly. hot maps one must do more hit and run to avoid over heating, cold maps blast away more aggressively.

Mining Collective and Terra Therma are my favorite two maps in this game.
All I ever see though is Frozen Colony and Alpine, my least two favorite maps in this game.
It's sad.
Edit: To answer the OP, cold maps promote more of the mindless CoD playstyle that seems so popular these days, while hot maps force people to think, which a lot of pilots don't like doing.
