Why Not Do This Simple Idea To Have Big 48-Mech Battles?

It would be so great to have a mode where we all get 4-mech drop decks as in CW, but with the normal maps...

Basically, when you die, you respawn at some protected base area (to prevent spawn-camping)... but aside from that, it's basically a continuous brawl until one side's 48 mechs are dead.

This would keep one of the most fun aspects of CW while removing all the crap:
  • You get to use 4 mechs
  • 1 little mistake isn't the end of the world
  • Teamwork is helpful
  • No more walking a gazillion miles to get things started
  • No waiting for matches in a game where there are already not enough players!
etc...

Before getting into the details -- is this appealing from the high level in your mind?

Just feels like it would be really fun and simple vs the complexities and failure of CW to create games without huge waits. Thoughts?

The more variety the better in my mind :)

Well, the "protected base" is pretty hard to implement. But I guess they could just spawn you somewhere randomly with no closeby enemies. Or even pop up the battlegrid and let you choose where to spawn.

Let's assume the little details like live firing dropships will be in... :)

Generally speaking, would you like to see a 48-vs-48 mech skirmish? That's the big question!

There would be even less reasons to play CW.

MW:LL has a "Territorial Advance" mode (sorry, forget its actual name) where you capture bases so that you can respawn at them.

It's great. MWO needs to implement something like this.

It could be just a progressive series of Drop Ship Landing Zones that you have to capture, and activate the base defences. (Or as an attacker, overcome the base defences).

The game engine can't handle any more than 24. In fact, given the hitreg issues already in the game, it can be argued that the game engine can't even handle 12 vs 12.

Re-spawns are pretty boring in this game.

I think a points based system would be better to balance things more, somewhat like BV or what MWLL did.

For those not familiar, basically both teams would start off with so many points, as mechs died they would subtract from this pool, higher valued mechs would take more away. Once you died you would just respawn, possibly in a mech of your choosing. The points would also decrease based on time, so even if two groups were to camp out, the game would still end.

It would allow them to later add things like objectives which could have a bigger impact on the points pool that maybe killing 4 mechs.

If I had no choice but to play with re-spawns I would uninstall and play one of the thousands of other better re-spawn shooters out there.

One disconnect and you're down 4 mechs, which can be a tide turner. PGI will like it though. They may sell more modules.

Terrain Control or TC.

Not only would need maps to suit, it would need to mimic the way there is a escalation of forces MWLL has for it feel right imo. The limited cbill where everone starts in the starter light mech brackets and soon after some kills start happening larger mechs start coming out... It doesn't need to mimic that where everyone is in ACHs and FS9s, but the ramping up as the match goes on I think is pretty essential for the mode to work best.
