like the starter money cadet bonuses provide, but i'm ready to try a mech i build & wondering if the bonuses stop when you buy your own mech & stop using the trials?
thanks

You get them for your first 25 matches, no matter what you drive/ride

As said above, you get the bonus CBills for your first 25 matches. Doesn't matter what you use during that time. Make sure you like the mech you end up purchasing! If you do the Academy, you can also get another 5 million or so CBills, which should be enough total to just about purchase any mech you like.
I'd suggest a Medium or Heavy for your first mech, however if you find you do well with a Light or Assault and they fit your playstyle, go for what you prefer. In general, Mediums and Heavies are slightly easier to do well without good map knowledge and positioning knowledge (where to go, where they are likely to be coming from).

You can get around 14-15 million total, give or take a million depending on your performance (this is 25 cadet matches and clearing all trials in the Tutorial).
That's all your starter money which should be enough to let you buy a top of the line clan heavy mech (maybe with a little more grinding past the cadet bonus) or practically any Inner Sphere mech and have enough left over for upgrades.
Just remember that the next mechs you'll buy after that will come in a bit slower. If you learn how to deal damage and not die early though farming for the other mechs will be a bit faster.
