I've been wondering why aren't we changing ghost heat into a sort of grade system where if you exceed the amount allowed then you start to get extra heat. Such as
small/med lasers 1
large/erlarge/largepulse 2
ppc/erppc/gauss 3
etc etc
Lets say if you fire in a combination that exceeds the value of 6 at the same time then you get ghost heat depending on how far you got past the limit. (Ofc direct damage weapons should have their own counter seperate from DoT based weaponry and so should missiles.) I dont think 30-35 laser alphas too troublesome, but when you combine different weapon groups then you can get to ridicilous amounts to which we are now accustomed to.
I think shared ghost heat between weapons that behave in similar way is much more healthier behavior than seperate counters. Granted we only have 2 groups atm but that still allows for 74 laser damage without incurring a penalty. Fortunately this alpha cannot be repeated but still its a horrendous amount especially considering this you can stack dual gauss (looking at you dw). Putting them all in one pot you can limit the alpha without hampering specialized builds.
Also i'd recommend increasing the range disparity between weapons a bit more so they would feel abit more different . This is a big problem for me, lasers feels too similar in the way that they effect how i use my mech..
Anyways thoughts on the matter guys? Are you happy with ghost heat groups set as it is or do you think it would be better to combine them in a system similar to one i suggest?

Ghost heat in any form is unnecessary and at best is a workaround for a larger problem with the way heat is being handled in general.

Dont hold breath towards PGI taking big steps, ghost heat has been around for a long time so whatever solution we bring has to involve it.
