Greetings Mechwarriors!

I have been thinking a lot about how there is a lot of balancing and re balancing. Thus is the nature of any game like this. Anyways this post may be met back with some hostilities as its idea's actually go against clan mechs but also offer in my opinion a good balance between all Clanners having nice light XL motors that don't blow up unless you get either RT or LT together.

Anyways here goes.

So think of a standard V 8 engine we use in cars. You unhook power to one side and technically you have a motor working only on 4 cylinders right? Which means reduced performance and power.

So lets look at the Clan XL engine. Can be destroyed in either RT or LT as long as the opposite side remains intact.

So ask answer me this. Why is it if my clan mech or if i destroy a side torso on an enemy clan mech they not only live. But also they move at the same speed?

There engine is damaged, missing part of it but yet their speed isnt reduced? This makes no sense what so ever.

So my proposed balance that can be tested in PTS.

Clan XL's are reduced speed when one side of its torso is destroyed say reducing speed by 20 or 25%.

I feel this is a fair balance that also makes a lot of sense. I know it will double if they lose a side torso and a leg. But oh well right? the Clan XL gives the clanners huge advantages compared to IS XL. So lets go developers lets see this happen!

Thank you for time in reading this.

Was this posted prior to the PTS announcement?

Quote

Clan Mech XL Engines
• When a Clan 'Mech loses a Side Torso, its Engine power is reduced by 20% for the rest of the match. This reduction applies to all factors affected by the Engine, such as turn rate, torso twist, and top speed.

Its in the list on the PTS announcement.

Yep, this change is official, however thumbs up for independent conclusion. I like the idea, not too radical, clanners still have the upper hand over Inner Spheres, however injured clan mech should be easy to finish from now on, therefore it balances the gameplay without hurting clanners lorewise.

20% is appropriate too. 2 of out of the 10 slots, or 20%. As a clanner, it's going to hurt a little, but I understand why it needed to happen.

I would like to see this same idea applied to IS mechs as well. Running an IS mech with an XL is a liability especially for Inner sphere lights and mediums. Back before the clans where added IS mechs mounting an XL brought more firepower to the field. Not a bad way to balance against the extra firepower.

Now that the game it pretty much Clans Vs IS this needs to change. IS mechs (especially Light and Mediums) HAVE to mount a XL if they want to compete firepower wise against Clan light and mediums. Not to mention the cost 4-6 million (the cost of new chassis) just to get a mech into fighting shape. I think that change alone would mostly solve some of current issues with balance.

TL:DR
IS XLs do not kill the mech when a side torso is lost, just greatly reduces engine functionality.

Only thing have to say to this is that the "Balancing" doesn't go far enough.

Like many above, I believe IS dying on ST destruction is still a problem. Make it so that they lose 30% movement and don't die and I'd call it good (40% is still a bit too heavy-handed).

On the other hand this is a great step in the right direction; 20% is very fair for Clantech.
