I like them, but I don't play much other mechs (I only own them), so I can't compare.
I did noticed some things though:
Catapults are slow, heavy, and still easy to kill, it is very easy to hit the catapult side torso and kill it, I think this is a hitbox issue (rather than the armour and structure values).
The other thing is that the catapults have a very wide weapons mount, with the SRMs or LRMs is less of a problem, but with the K2 is obvious, you never hit anything, but not just because of the weapons mount, but because all maps have very crap hitboxes, I had many, many, many fights lost because I saw some enemy in a obvious place, I wasn't seeing any parts of the map in front of me, and when I shot my PPCs they hit a invisible wall, then I would go some steps back and realize they hit a mech-sized hitbox in a map corner.
One of the worst offenders is that community warfare map full of canyons, both my catapults are useless on that map, because they keep hitting invisible map hitboxes. (the mechs I tried that worked are the raven and the current human-shaped trial mech that has 3 pulse lasers, I forgot its name).
Also, the Catapult has velcro feet, often when following my team I notice that me (And any other catapults) get stuck on terrain when climbing stuff. (specially on those maps with steep mountains with less steep channels made on purpose to allow difficult but possible climbing)
