Add Struc L/R Arm +17
Add Struc L/R Torso +11

After:

Ballistic Velocity +20%

Guess what Atlas Pilots? Now you can have 130+ Front Armor and 86+ Side Torso Front Armor, along with 10+ Rear Armor! XL Friendly? XL Friendly. (because people don't believe in change... ( ಠ ಠ ) ) Not only that, but it gets some nice turn speed bonuses to make it a menace in battle, topped off with an Accel Bonus and BAM!

So those old Atlas pilots, come out! Go play the PTS and see how much tougher the Atlas is now.

XL friendly? Gtfo. ;)

Noone puts a xl in an atlas - How dare you!

Moreover... Well thats basically 1 more alpha strike the atlas can take. I am looking forward to see the changes on live-servers. Not so sure about the clan xl changes though....

Nothing that large and slow, with that many weapons biased on one side, is "XL Friendly".

Also, you are confusing Structure bonuses for armor bonuses, which they are not.

Ha, considering it XL friendly for the speed bonuses it gets. Top it off with armor and you can twist a bit faster than the live version. ;)

Also hey we all gotta do the meta ⋋( ◕ ∧ ◕ )⋌

Armor is external protection.

Structure is internal Hit Points.

Once your armor is breached, damage is taken to structure.

That's when your paper doll on the HUD no longer has any border lines around a component and is "open" - that remaining area that takes damage is structure.

I disagree. Sorry! ;)

I see no armor values quirks.

Although i get it why people thinks it tanks more.

You can give the Atlas as many structure quirks if you want but if the armor is still shaved off with a few hits then it will wander in the heat of a battle like a stick. Opened up components are extremely sensitive for crits and damage transfer. Your main cannon like the AC/20 or your sidetorso packed with SRMs will just be disabled at the same rate on the live servers.*

It feels tanker because of the +17 structure on both arms.

*When most of the people don't torso twist and spread the damage around by starting by the arms first. To protect your CT/ST.

In my opinion the Atlas should have gotten a optimal mix of both armor and structure. I gave my feedback on this and after years of playing them out.

Which also comes to the point when you put the above as suggested in the Atlas it wil not walk as a disabled zombie in the heat of the battle when the first seconds of a push/flank etc. are crucial to dish out some firepower. If the quirks stays: It will just be another jockstick with just disabled weapon systems. It only expands the longivity with disabled weapons.

In other words: i prefer have the Atlas have the first seconds fight his way through a main pack with all weapons functioning untill armor gets heavily pierced and then gets disabled in a later stage then a Atlas which loses all of his weapons in the first seconds but with attached useless disabled components and disabled weapons.

Edit: hard to explain...my English is terrible on this post sorry. Made some adjustments.

Shh all be good just buy the boars head with 25 crit reduction for mc and all the problems go away lol.
I mean no other atlas deserves to have them right? Since they all dont suffer from the same problems the Boars head has. this screams so much *grabdeal* but we all love to buy MC mechs right ?

I ran my DDC on the PTS and while it did do better it would have been quite a bit better with armor quirks.
My DDC will take anything it can get but it's really a shame this wasn't an armor buff.

I think, what you experienced was rather 4v4 than an actually tanky atlas.

did it in a private match, 12v12.

Oh well. Sometimes there's so many things to remember about MWO that you forget the tiny details.

Like the difference between structure and armor bonuses.... or how to tell what's good and what's not.

alas, one can say that this isn't one problem that muddles my mind even today, but..! That's for another time.

But then it comes down to this:

Can the Atlas take that much more punishment than most mechs now?

For me, yeah it did, at least for those extra few seconds that I would have died already.

But another question is:

Why the leg structure quirks then?

I can only guess it's for lights who'd leg the assaults most of the time, which is plausible.

The DDC still performs OK. You just can't try to face-tank a Dire Whale, otherwise you're good to go.

The Atlas is not what it once was, but it still sports a minimum 56 point alpha at close range with a pair of shield arms. Played well (in the same sense that it could be played well before clans) it will perform well.

Can you guys test if the atlas actually loses the AC/20 quickly after armor is breached?

The YLW has a hard time losing a gauss rifle due to the structure quirks in the arm.

PGI is turbobuffing structure but mostly ignoring armor because they still think that critical hits and crit-seekers are a thing in MWO.

Atlas never stopped living up to its name. It's still one of the best pushing mechs in the game.

TBH even with all of the buffs it's pretty similar relative to most other IS assaults as it was before, since most of those got buffed, too. But that's fine, because that still leaves it as a giant tower of death and despair.

Well... they are a thing. Look at all of the people upset about structure instead of armor. If they weren't a thing, it wouldn't matter.
