Is there any way to block a player so you can never be grouped with them again?

I also wish I could do the inverse for when playing SOLO.
There are a couple pilots Ive run with that never talk on the MIC or even type anything out, but have a very clear understanding of the dynamic of the match and perform great in a team dynamic that is filled with mostly silent PUGs

Agree with both Boogie, last night I was again on several drops with this one pilot I drop with sometimes in pugs... guy is awesome and when he's calling company command.. we operate like a unit that's run together for a while, not pug. I keep trying to catch his name but haven't yet (next time I'm just going to ask over the comms). He has an accent.. can't place it (maybe Czech/Slavic/Russian?) but man does the guy have a talent for organizing and focusing a pug.

Yes there is a way:
1. Friend that player
2. If you see him offline then you are safe. Keep playing.
3. If you see him online, ask him if he is playing Skirmish or CW at the moment and play the exact opposite. If he is playing CW and you want to play CW also, then break contract and make sure you don't end up on the same faction/side. If he is playing Skirmish and you want to play Skirmish also, then tell him to uncheck the Oceania or Europe server (so he can have a better gaming experience) and make sure you check only the server he unchecked.
Hope this helps.

I know what you mean (to the OP) I wish there was also a way to block player-killers who are on your team in a drop, like what happened with me and my team sometime ago, when we were on the verge on of winning until some drongo (can I can drongo on the forums?) started killing his own teaqm members and costing us the vicroy/win that should have have have been in the bag.

Actually, there is a way from avoiding playing with these types of players and it is already implemented into the game. Just get everyone to report him for teamkilling (even the opponents can do that). At some point PGI will react and the problem will have been solved.

Yeah, we all ended up doing that at the end of the drop, and while the battle was going on when he was player-killing, those on my team who had already died by his hands (or weapons, whatever) send out a message via the text-comms to the enemy team asking him to kill him with a vengeance and, thanks to them and their compassion, they did it for us, so it just goes to show that even though you fight on opposing teams with some people in drops, most people are kind and considerate enough to take pity (if that is the right word to use) and do us a favour and turn the begger into scrap for us.
It still does not change the fact that we lost the drop because of him, but at least the opposing team wasting him make it up to us in some small way.
