ANNOUNCEMENT

SECOND POST UP!: http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__4833938

Apologies for the clickbait. o7
Sarlic's most unconstructive whine post in history.

Take a deep breath.

Sarlic views Instagram. (Shame, no jailbait).
Sarlic is gobsmacked.
Sarlic will say say it out loud:

Why does anyone wants to design round circles in rectangular or squared screens?
In other words: Round interface in rectangular / squared screens? I... I don't even...

Sorry i had to say it. It's too round! It's too circular. You dont put circles in non rounded sharp squares. Ever!

It doesnt make sense and it looks weird!

I get the trend if you want to soften up the corners and i understand if you have read this:
http://uxmovement.co...er-on-the-eyes/

Go Google 'Circular interface'. Only use circles if the shape is nicely rounded shaped as well. For example the Apple iWatch.

Still got some breath?

Band-aids are square.

They could put those over them.

I'm assuming he's referencing the cockpit monitors.

My hope is that they are just placeholders until we can buy the screens we want.

They are animated and it appears that there are at least four different versions. What are you complaining about again, Sarlic? This seems like nit-picking to the extreme.

No no! *nostalgia*

I mean the cockpit monitors.

I will come back later with a own made example to show the differences in design and why i think the full rounded (static) interface in squared screen is wrong. Too rounded is just not good. Take a good look om the Atlas screenshot on Instagram. The space around is wasted and nobody would waste space with 'critical information'.

In my opinion the Atlas cockpit interface design doenst look good.

But these guys sit in front of round interfaces on square/rectangular monitors all day long...

He's talking about this:

Which you can find more of (including a couple of videos of them animating) on Instagram.

At least it seems the kill counters work, although I thought it a bit lame to have twelve icons on-screen and just light up one for each kill.

Edit: I'm not going to grump too much about "Autodetect: No Signal" disappearing, but these seem... not very BattleTech-y :(

I know what you're saying Sarlic, but it looks just fine. You're being hyper-critical. Especially if considering that these monitors have multiple functions and can display different types of info. For example, the multi-function monitors in the Apache Longbow.

Yeah it is kinda silly but has a sort of retro 80s charm, too. Remember these?

I had a few when I was a kid. It was hilarious how you could always see the faint outline of shapes on the screen before they changed to black.

The misshapen circles and colors are a bit gaudy, though.

Hehe. That picture is from the community modded version of EECH. I've played a lot of flight sims. :)

Sure I remember those; the night I overflowed the score counter on Donkey Kong for the first time was one of the proudest nights of my pre-teen early teenage life :)

But the criticism remains; sure, in MWO we can never kill more than 12 'mechs, but would such a display ever exist in the BattleTech universe? I think we all know the answer to that; it's a resounding "are you crazy? of course not".

I just want to know if I can customize my screens with pin-up models.

Yeah. In a real 'mech the pilot would have a razor blade in one hand, ***** their finger on their other and streak a dash of blood on the side of the cockpit every time they killed something.

Come to think of it... that'd be pretty damn cool to have in the game.

Yep. It shows the display better than most of the photos of the real thing. B)

In a "real" 'mech, there wouldn't be a kill counter at all, and certainly not one limited to 12 kills (taking up a whole screen to display twelve large skull icons). Kill markings would possibly be painted on the 'mech after the battle, if the pilot was so inclined (which reminds me; where are the decals?).

Good art team, poor game balance team.
