Does anyone know a workaround for closing/disabling the news popup in the game? Having to click "dismiss" all the time is troublesome especially since it doesn't always show up on screen or activate as it should.

Try pushing Alt-Enter a few times: This will jump you between Full Screen, and Fullscreen Windowed, which sometimes helps with these post-Win7 focus issues …
