In the B33F's video it looked like they were sticker type decals. Looks like you can apply them anywhere on the mech.

The B33f has a video on it? brb checking now

It's part of his newest video.

I saw it... am slightly disapointment... I do not want to see jade falcon logos bigger than a locust on the side of an atlas and a random decal that has nothing to do with MW: O or lore on the front ... looks like I will have to see how it'll go.

Indeed, ideally the closer to implementation the more info we'll get.

ummm...for the decals - custom should be no cost - allow upload of a jpg to be used at no cost.

The problem with that is Pgi has to filter custom decals, etc.

The thing is, that's just a huge thing to balance. It's way more work than CCG (Custom Cosmetic Geometry).

I think people are and is thinking of 2 different 'decals' ideas...

Some people are thinking of stuff like this:
Posted Image

How they have their unit insignia, grey death legion. The skull with red background on the upper torso and legs.

The other idea some may have is things along the lines of say.... shark noses and stuff...

I want to know which one people are thinking of as some people got different ideas O_o
The last thing I want is having some large chunk of skins obsolete as well as weird stuff (applying shark mouth to phranken direwolf or misery?) or (random flowers and cats everywhere?)

interrestign with what Russ shwoed us how to apply "decals" it could mean, that palyer submitted decals can be used for altering camo's and patterns

The way how the decals get played remind me a lot as in APb reloaded. So complexit of customisation will depend on the amount of decals we are allowed to slap on a mech.

Go to 6:00

If we had APB's car customisation on mechs, MWO had an unchallanged godlike customisation. But I guess this is not what we ever will see. However what Russ showed seemed to worked similar in decal placement.

in the end I would be happy if we get the chance to slap at least 3 diffferent playermade Sysmbols on our mech.

Guys, they're already doing this. [Edit: Ooops! The video is newer than the thread... Okay then]

What I want to know is how big the decals can be, and if they bleed onto nearby geometry.
If they do, then you can use decals as camo. Anyone who's played War Thunder tanks will know the "P E A N U T S" trick.

You _do_ realize this thread was started before they announced decals?
And if you read the last couple posts, you also realize that this is already being discussed :)

Never played WT, so I can´t really comment on your 2nd part.

Yeah, I realized afterwards. I've fixed the post, but left the video in anyway for relevance.

I War Thunder, you can place your decals on any surface of the tank, rotate/flip it in any way, and you can select to have it limited to the side you're on, or let it bleed across all other surfaces. I wonder if we will get these options here too.

There is a decal that reads "PEANUTS" in huge letters which many people use to camoflauge the tank, since the camo's are pretty lacklustre and in simulation game mode there are no targeting boxes/indicators for enemy units (IE: No red triangles or boxes, all done by eye like they all have perma-ECM).

This is the PEANUTS trick:

Also, there's another decal that looks like a big white round blob, perfect for snowy terrain.

That´s actually quite clever :)

Do you know what map you play on before playing in WT (as in, putting on winter camo but then being put in a desert environment would be kinda counter-productive :) )?

Everyone think's they're being clever and innovative because they think of it themselves, then suddenly they realise everyone else is already doing it.

Nope, same as MWO, except there is no map voting. The system just chooses a map and that's it.
Generally, people just go all-forest or all-snow and hope for luck. Most of the maps fall into these two colour schemes.
...And of course you get the occasional flourescent showoff camo/decal combo.
