I understand about the double meaning behind ISIS, which is my point. CanOWhupAss is a term used quite heavily in the military (proud veteran here). It's also used here in the south. We are playing battletech, not barbie dolls. I can't believe that someone would find offense to the name, let alone that the moderators would actually side with them. It's not like I picked FuqDatBeoyotch or something actually threatening.

I've already reached my limit for reporting names (today)... I guess I will have to start again tomorrow... Sad that this is what the world has become.

Well, it's time to start believing. Even phrases like "communist inbred space furries" get censored these days. The PC Principal is taking over the world...

I love that our society caters to the LCDs (Lowest Common Denominators) of the world. If you don't know what that means, you likely are one, so never mind.

The Politically correct, let's not have "winners" but participants, everyone gets a ribbon idiots of the world are slowly dragging the rest of the planet down to their level of idiocy just as shown in the satirical movie Idiocracy.

slowly?

Might want to pay attention closer, we are on the drag race to idiocy.... the laughable part is how many people don't see their own contributions to it.

I see nothing wrong with your name.
We did have a few other threads like this, though, those names were a bit more crass (even though i couldn't remember them even if my life depended on it).

To be honest, i really don't think names like this should be changed. Only time they should be changed is when they contain racial slurs or some other nonsense like that.

I really do feel too many names are being revoked.

Rather than take a persons name away, the person who flagged the name should then see that person as "Mechwarrior #" as soon as they flag the name, so they will no longer have to see the "offensive" name.

There could be an option check box in the menu that lets you hide names that others have deamed as offensive as well, then you wouldn't even have to see the risque names in the first place.

The Devs or Mods who censor names like OP need to exercise common sense. Otherwise they become the tools of troll and/or pathetic little human being who use someone else to feel powerful over their peers.

"Quit it or my big brother will knock you out" should stay in grade school. We are just creating cliques with people fightning their wars from under the devs/mods dress.

I said it often and ill reiterate, id rather see someone with a name i don't like and know from a mile away that i DON'T want to befrind him.

Just continually make name requests that insult or bash PGI, like PGIcantprogram, pgisucks, dontgivepgiyourmoney... stuff like that. See what happens then report back.

While I don't disagree, one could also argue that the "Quit it or my big brother will knock you out" names should stay in grade school, too, yes?

The issue is...the line does have to be drawn, somewhere, and wherever it's drawn, people will complain. You may find the OPs name inoffensive, but another fully functional adult with a different morality than you, may disagree. I'm a former firefighter, from a family of sailors...suffice it to say, it takes a lot to turn my head. The OPs original name certainly wouldn't even have blipped my radar, despite my preference to avoid profanity (not that I don't slip... I get pissed off too, at times, lol).

So the default is pretty simple, and the same considered acceptable at most professional workplaces (in front of customers, anyhow), schools, etc.... No one can honestly say they are offended by NOT hearing perceived profanity, but there are those who are offended by what others may considered mild profanity.

Seriously..when was the last time you walked away from a conversation and thought "This pisses me off, no one cussed one single time!!!!!" ?

While whether you, I or the OP agree, anytime one drops "colorful metaphors" outside our inner circles, there is a decent chance that someone did take offense, or find it in poor taste.

That's why the CoC in most workplaces, while seldom enforced does contain language to the effect that words like "ass" can be grounds for discipline.

It just is what it is. We are in a generation where a lot of people no longer get that, or are willing to accept any PoV but they're own. And that gets magnified with the anonymity of the internet.

Now, would I have found the OPs name report worthy? No. A tad boorish, perhaps, but no biggy. But I recognize my worldview is not everyone's. And so I try to comport myself in a way that is more or less universally acceptable when it comes to things that identify me. But that's my choice, and I have had no cause to regret it. The OP chose otherwise, and now has grief for his choice. *shrug*

The OP acknowleges that the system is bad then decides to bring that misery to others by reporting others as well.

stuff about pleasing the people who create problems to themselves and instead of owning those problems seek to change others.

Just a big Nope to everything you said. If someone has a problem with someone else name, he owns that problem and need to learn to live with it or seek to change it within his own capabilities. Said person can ask others to change for them but not hold them to any obligation to do it. You have the right to be offended, but not to disregard your own culpability. It really doesnt matter is some person take offense at stuff that does not offend you. It's not about what offend you at all, it's about taking your own responsibility about your personal problems.

For everything in life, when you have a problem, you own it. If you can't make it right yourself then it goes beyond you and you need to learn to live with it because it does not concern you.

Just giving the moderators more work since they seem to want to fight everyone's battle.

yet oddly, society as a whole, still disagrees with you. It's not me you are arguing with, as I noted, I sincerely don't care.

No. First, i can walk around saying can of whop ass and nobody will give a ****. Maybe there will be that old hateful lady that will be offended but nobody will care. She could ask the manage to take me out of the store but he wont.

And society, as in the real world and not in a game forum, believe in freedom of expression even if it makes you look like a stupid redneck. The few in society who can't have their dictatorship turn to closed places, like circle of friends or other closed places on the internet where it's easier to abuse the system and try to mold it to you as opposed to be part of it. Try and abuse the system like that in the real world and you will be sorely disapointed at the indiference people will have for you.

I don't personally find it offensive but you have to remember that you're in Canada here technically.
