The Devs or Mods who censor names like OP need to exercise common sense. Otherwise they become the tools of troll and/or pathetic little human being who use someone else to feel powerful over their peers.
"Quit it or my big brother will knock you out" should stay in grade school. We are just creating cliques with people fightning their wars from under the devs/mods dress.
I said it often and ill reiterate, id rather see someone with a name i don't like and know from a mile away that i DON'T want to befrind him.
While I don't disagree, one could also argue that the "Quit it or my big brother will knock you out"
names should stay in grade school, too, yes?
The issue is...the line does have to be drawn, somewhere, and wherever it's drawn, people will complain. You may find the OPs name inoffensive, but another fully functional adult with a different morality than you, may disagree. I'm a former firefighter, from a family of sailors...suffice it to say, it takes a lot to turn my head. The OPs original name certainly wouldn't even have blipped my radar, despite my preference to avoid profanity (not that I don't slip... I get pissed off too, at times, lol).
So the default is pretty simple, and the same considered acceptable at most professional workplaces (in front of customers, anyhow), schools, etc.... No one can honestly say they are offended by NOT hearing perceived profanity, but there are those who are offended by what others may considered mild profanity.
Seriously..when was the last time you walked away from a conversation and thought "This pisses me off, no one cussed one single time!!!!!" ?
While whether you, I or the OP agree, anytime one drops "colorful metaphors" outside our inner circles, there is a decent chance that someone did take offense, or find it in poor taste.
That's why the CoC in most workplaces, while seldom enforced does contain language to the effect that words like "ass" can be grounds for discipline.
It just is what it is. We are in a generation where a lot of people no longer get that, or are willing to accept any PoV but they're own. And that gets magnified with the anonymity of the internet.
Now, would I have found the OPs name report worthy? No. A tad boorish, perhaps, but no biggy. But I recognize my worldview is not everyone's. And so I try to comport myself in a way that is more or less universally acceptable when it comes to things that identify me. But that's my choice, and I have had no cause to regret it. The OP chose otherwise, and now has grief for his choice. *shrug*
