I want to talk to my fellow mechwarriors in battle without being shot at as i'm typing. Please someone help me.

The default push to talk key is the Caps Lock. You can re-map it to another key if you like.

In the "settings" tab in the menu, make sure the "VOIP" voice is checked.

I've turned that crap off a few weeks ago, too many desktop generals that start cussing because people don't want to follow their worthless plans.

NO! you can't let it come to that, otherwise you'll miss out on this

1 - Make sure VOIP is checked.
2 - Check the keybinding, CAPS LOCK is default but you can change it.
3 - While waiting for a PUG match to start, press the key set in #2 and talk something like, "Mic Check." Usually people will respond either by voice or chat. Also watch for the speaker icon on your line to turn green showing it is working, if it does not, the game does not acknowledge your device for some reason.
If people do not respond to you in #3, you may need to fix your Audio settings. I had to boost the 2 Level settings to max due to low voice, sometimes I have to change one of the Device settings, usually Default works.
