Long time player here. Just wanted to put to post a few words about the Dragon.
Overall, I am enjoying it now after the rebalance than I ever have been. The Dragon has become much more survivable and is fuliflling the roles that it was intended for. I recently switched back from an XL engine to a standard engine and have been reaping a huge benfit in terms of survivability. Switching much of my ammo to 1/2 tons has further aided this.
My builds have been following the quirks for the most part so I guess they are a little cookbookish. But when you start averaging more than 300 points of damage per match and a long time survived in the match then something good has taken place.
I really like how you toned down the snout of the Dragon. I don't feel like I'm going to get half my mech shot off when rounding a corner before I can even see what is doing the deed.
I remain eager to see what other changes will be wrought.

300 dmg? thats not what a dragon is intended for... I think the new quirks are too harsh. It reduces its firepower by 50% (15 dps to 10 dps with ac/5). I really think thats too much of nerfing. please change the intended 10 colddown to 20%. The thing why is simple: clanners deal ~70 dmg per laservomit. How to deal with this with 10 dps? oO
AC/5 Cooldown +25% | AC/5 Cooldown +10% -> AC/5 Cooldown +15%
Ballistic Cooldown +25% | Ballistic Cooldown +20% -> Ballistic Cooldown +25%
AC/5 Cooldown +25% | AC/5 Cooldown +10% -> AC/5 Cooldown +15%
Ballistic Cooldown +25% | Ballistic Cooldown +20% -> Ballistic Cooldown +25%

Considering I get at least 2 kills a match I'm actually okay with the level of damage Im currently doing. 300 was just a ball park number. I usually do better than that. I think you are focusing too much on a single quirk of the dragon. Try a balanced build where you take weapon systems that do a similar amount of damage. Don't load up a single side of the mech with too much. Also standard engines are the Dragon's best friend right now.
Also on average my builds have me doing at least 20 to 30 DPS anyways. But still, I don't view that as an end all be all indicator for damage. There are plenty of other factors that go into how effective a mech can be in combat. Not just one quirk.
I don't try to compete with the laser vomit, that's for other mechs. I feel like the dragon has been made more viable than it ever was before. I can last a lot longer and actually make an impact now a days. You ask, how to deal with 10 dps and only frame the question in regard to eh AC/5. Well the answer to that is don't just take an AC/5, you should of course be throwing in some lasers and some missles as well. It's not a one trick pony. You have other options to support the AC system.
TL:DR, Dragon is find, DPS is better than you think, Don't use laservomit as a comparison it doesn't make sense.
Edit: A word or two.
