I just can't get a chance to at least try the game.
I played Battletech in grade school and LOVED it, now, nobody plays the table game so this is my one last hope. I'd be happy to be a founder but I have to at least try the game.

if you need to try it out, a founders pack isn't for you.

founders packs are for people who have faith that this will be a good game, and want to contribute to it, and get something in return.

You're not the first to voice this concern. That's fine. Just wait for open beta. No one is forcing you to pre-order the game, which is essentially what a Founder pack is. There were many games in the past that I have pre-ordered without playing the game and based only on my expectations of that game.. sometimes I am disappointed but most of the time I am glad I did.

There's enough info about the game in the forums, and several videos you can watch. That should be enough to make a decision. I say go for it. Even if you only get the basic package. If you liked Battletech, you'll love MWO.

If you want a founders pack and love the franchise make the leap of faith and get even just veteran pack. If you wait till august 7th for a chance to play you lose the chance to get founders. As they say its a preorder of sorts.

I am a founder because I support it's development. It isn't because I think the game is really cool to play.

The founders packs give special consideration to those willing to take a risk on this game. No risk, no reward. You can pay regular price for things in game when it comes out, like everyone else.

Great...another whiner....

The founders has nothing to do with the game, it's just a collectors item for the people who love the series. The items/currency you get is just a bonus.

I guess I should add that its also about supporting a company who is bringing back a game we havent seen in 10 years.

Wrong, it is not a pre-order of any kind.

Go back and re-read what it is. "A collectors item for the die-hard fans on the franchise"

Well, being a founder, like any contributor to a project, is giving a monetary donation for it's development, whether or not you would actually participate in it.

Edit: deleted double quote

We'll see what it is when the time comes. I'm sure they'll give us ample head's up on this. If you care about it, track it yourself. I agree it would be nice to try before you buy and I know they have heard our pleas at least. We'll see. I know you will be kicking yourself later if you don't get one of them.

OP I feel you pain. I was in your camp until a few days ago I decided that this game was worth a $60 risk. I don't know what to tell you, its a tough call.

Could always go for the Elite founder pack; it seemed like a pretty good deal IMO (dont really think I need 4 mechs or my name recorded in the history books ).

Hell, I bought a Diablo 3 CE and that game is a friggin wreck, so I didn't see much of an issue putting $60 down for a game that looks like fun. I just hope throwing money at my computer screen doesn't become a habit...I hate spending money.

It's not about being a fan of the game so much as being a fan of all things Battletech. I haven't tried the game either, but Battletech + persisting multiplayer x Atlas/Jaeger = sign me up
