From December roadmap:

Quote

Change to PSR Tier for new players
With the expected influx of new players through Steam we have adjusted the starting PSR value for new players down from Tier 4 to Tier 5 status. This should help new players with the initial learning curve, and allow them to settle into their initial skill level.

Good. Hope I never queue with them until they learned the basics.

As tier 1 you shouldn't have that issue. Last I checked queuing goes something like this (I'm sure you're probably aware, but it should help explain things for other people), at least for solo queue anyway:

- Tiers 1, 2, and 3 can be grouped together.

- Tiers 5, 4, and 3 can be grouped together.

- Tiers 2, 3, and 4 can be grouped together.

- Tier 3 basically functions as the fill-in on either extreme.

- Tiers 2, 3, and 4, making up the bulk of players, are the bulk of games.

- Once one end of the spectrum gets committed to a match queue, the other won't be added.

That's how I understand things from reading the review posts, notes, and general observations in game (there are certain people whom I never see paired together in matches . . . and being tier 3 I've seen both ends of the spectrum).

As tier 2, you shouldn't be paired with a tier 5. However, as a tier 3 . . . for better or worse . . . I'll probably get grouped with them . . . a lot. I honestly don't know how to feel about it. I can only hope they play the tutorial before jumping into matches . . . but I know many won't.

The tutorial should be mandatory. The first thing I did personally when playing a mech game other than some old japanese one that's a LOT faster, was to do the tutorial, and run around a few trees for an hour practicing cockpit and leg motions.

A lot of the CS:GO community actually spend 30-60 minutes in warm up practice maps before playing for their session, as the ranking system there is quite brutal. If you recommend any kind of practice techniques, many will be happy to oblige.

The only hard lock is Tier 1 is blocked from playing Tiers 4 and 5. All the other tiers can play together 2, 3, 4, and 5 can all be the the same match. It tries for the closest tiers first, but will expand that as time passes.

That being said, breaking into Tier 1 is just a way for us to make sure you never play anyone in tier 4 or 5.

A Tier 1 player will never play against a Tier 4 or Tier 5 player.

I don't know why people keep saying it's a +/- 2 tiers system, it hasn't been described that way.

I'll be happy when I grind through to T2 just so I can notice an improvement in average team quality. Takes time even going up constantly since i don't play 100 games a day or anything like that.

The fame is not hard. But to grasp the concept ot warfare and not to die all alone out there. It's hard for newcomer to understand that easily. Unlike cawodooti and battlefield, mwo is much more complex when it comes to decision making and discipline.

Yeah for those guys sure. The most popular FPS on steam however is CS:GO. I can guarantee you that bored top tier CS:GO players will give you a run for your money. If they wanted to.

You do realise that it will not change much right?

It's something. But eventually the 'Tier' system will be even more flawed then now.
