Just curious if there are certain IS factions that are better atm. I personally have been playing Steiner, almost rank 4 (96%, so only 20k more till another mech bay)

But with this event i am wondering if there might be a better one to join up with. Also, is there a place that you can go to make some faction groups, so its not all a pug? I don't play a ton of CW, and i know things have changes since i last played it about 3 months ago.

I just wanna fight the good fight against those dirty clanners! :)

If you want to "go further" with CW, I would highly suggest joining the TS server. YOu'll be able to meet players from every unit and organization. Everyone has public dropships to put together casual PUGs to drop with. Find some peopel you enjoy playing with, drop with them, and find a unit you enjoy being a part of.

That will really enhance your CW, I promise.

I do have team speak, and have grouped before and such.... But i was merely speaking for IS factions.. I know some of the events certain factions were a bit more small group friendly. So i was basically wondering if joining a specific one, might help me out tomorrow. I figured i would play some CW Saturday. To find a group, and improve my CW, that is a bit further from the scope of my weekend. Perhaps in the future, I'm sure there are some casual groups around.. Maybe some RPers even...

But for the weekend, I was mainly looking for people that don't normally do CW, but wanna do it for the event. I know that is not what many want to hear, but the event is on, and i'm sure there are lots of people that don't normally play are gonna give it a shot. I was gonna give it a go Saturday. I'm all for house Steiner! But i could be persuaded to do something else.

I will say, i have had fun the few times i did do CW, and ended up just forming a group as we went.. But again, it had me wondering about if there is a faction that might be better than others. I have heard in past events some factions were a bit easier than others to get games, or maybe smaller groups playing it? Perhaps i am mistaken. But i figured before i singed the contract i would ask.

FRR usually has a lot going on at their TS hub.

The way FRR's TS server is set up helps out greatly

Almost all the units have sections on there server so its a one stop shop
You go on there server look for a place with less then 12 people pop in and say could you use 1?

I wish other factions would copy there setup
Marik is also pretty good

Cool, thanks for the info.. BTW, what happens to my Steiner loyalty, if i switch to FRR?

one last Q, if someone is another group, like davion, or what ever, can they join a group that is has other IS people? Is this whole event clan vrs IS? Or is their inner fighting too?

From personal experience (I've been Kurita since 3025 MPBT and Mech Commander and MW days) I switched to Marik because we've got a pretty large and regular group of players and sb-units ranging from extremely casual to extremely rigid with training schedules and such. Signing up for the enjin site will give you access to our TS servers as well. Just depends on what you're looking for. When I want to drop other than solo, I jump on Marik's TS and find a group to play with.

Hey, how is Marik right now as a pug? Many opportunity to drop?

I've had no problems finding games thus far. I hit launch and within 60 seconds 90% of the time I'm in a game. If you're talking group drops, when I just drop casually with my PUG buddies we range anywhere from 3-8 on average and never have an issue with finding a game.

CW wise, I don't bother to do the math on "best" planetary attack and defend options, so I join one of the CW PUG groups and let those better informed decide when and where we drop. With that being said, I rarely have had an instance where from hitting drop we either aren't in a quick match to grab cbills and % of the planet or we're in a "real" game. I'd say I can get 2-3 matches every 2 hours in on average (sometimes more if we run into a really well organized unit that just steamrolls us) so that can go up depending on the night. That covers drops from about 5PM CST through midnight and sometimes 2-3AM, so I play a lot of different time zone prime times. Just as I'm winding down, the Aussies and sometimes Euros are just gearing up so I can catch rides with them as well.

I didn't know if you mean solo, group, pub drops, cw, etc. so I just tried to give the best representation of my MM experience. Overall it's rare that I'm not setting in a lobby waiting for a drop and hanging out with my PUG buddies and goofing off while we wait out the CW timer or be stomping along in a pub match within a (in my opinion anyhow) very reasonable amount of time.

Yeah, just go check. I am sure Tarogato and his Isen buddies won't shoot you in the back as a "joke" and belittle his/your pug team mates!

MOST of FRR is a bunch of good guys that have been there for a long time. You just need to dodge the insufferable tryhard bunch is all.

I haven't spent much time with Marik - something like two weeks 8 months ago - but I have put in a four plus months with FRR and I will vouch for them.

FRR has been taking steps to create an environment suitable for newer players to find a home and get involved in unit life and community warfare. The units RKA and RKRV are specifically designed as new player holding units so you can get a tag, training exercises and materials, participation with players from other established merc and loyalist house units, and access to 24/7 CW dropships, usually with some form of drop leadership available. It is recognized by all at FRR that RKA and RKRV members are available for recruitment into the more established units, so poaching from these units is an approved activity. The idea is to graduate into a higher tier unit one day.

Currently, RKA is a loyalist house unit, while RKRV frequently changes faction, to allow the newer players to experience the vastness of MWO, and acquire multiple mechbays on their travels. Unit members can freely jump back and forth between these two groups as their personal needs require.

The FRR public teamspeak hub is designed to facilitate public interaction between the new players and the established units, with one of the goals being to get the full 12 man CW drops organized and operational on short notice. The benefits for the newer player of operating in full 12 man teams most often translates into better earnings and greatly reduced waiting times in the CW environment - not to mention the exposure to more experienced players, which improves your own game at every level.

What you eventually get out of this game always depends very much on what you are prepared to put into it. It is also most helpful to operate in an environment that is specifically designed to accelerate your own skill development, and FRR, as a faction sponsored initiative, has embraced this challenge.

Now if we could have in-game what people use TS for.....

I tried it, once, and never went back to it. Having to use third party software, install **** and work around the game to actually play the game always felt weird to me.

With that said, I'll probably switch to FRR or Davion next round, since I've really had enough by how bad steiner is at the moment. The pugs are crap and the units are just not there.

While I agree with you, lets not exaggerate getting to TS. You take a few seconds to download TS. You copy and paste the server info, bookmark it, and join when you fire up TS. Most people capable of manuevering an online game and headsets are capable of doing this within 5 minutes.

If you're completely "illiterate" when it comes to TS and such, there are a TON of people right here on this very forum that will walk you through it step-by-step.

Yes, it should be integrated, but it isn't (not fully) yet so the community (that's us the players) spent the time and money to offer ANYone who wants to use it, the option of using TS and finding other gamers to play alongside of. TS is not some tech nightmare to install and setup, it's quite simple, the sound quality is typically great, and you don't run into the loudmouthed teenagers using the latest swear word they just learned often. It's a great and easy alternative.

Been using TS since 2001, but the way faction's organize theirs has me confused. Dropped into 3 separate ones, landed in the lobby, scrolled down to see about 20 rooms but couldn't figure out how to pair off for a drop.

Typically if you use one of the public TS servers such as ngng, you'll see public dropships for PUGs. (channels or rooms) Just find one with open slots and join. Factions typically have rooms also for recruiting and PUG dropping as well.

Hey!

I only can tell you from my personal Merc Experience. I dropped alongside all IS Factions. I think FRR followed by Kurita are really nice Factions to play with. Looking forward to be in FRR again.

I can vouch for FRR as well. They have a nice TS hub. Even a socially awkward guy like me can find his way to groups there. I'm currently touring clans for those lvl 2 mechbays, but I'll surely return to FRR once I'm done. Also stumbled on Clan Wolf International TS. They seem like decent people as well, but this is off topic. This was about IS, quiaff?

TS can be somewhat hard to learn

I had one unit mute my mic because I had open mic I never even got the chance to correct the problem
I found there web site donated to there TS and then moved on never looking back

A lot of these guys/gals have been gaming and using TS for years
Another thing that is done is while you are in the CW lobby you ask is anyone on TS?

They will quickly type the address have a pen and paper ready to copy it down
Because you will run out of time real quick
Also these things have to be entered exactly to get on there TS (this can be a real pain)
Lastly there is nothing stopping pugs joining up and forming a strike team

In the lobby you can ask is anyone on TS? Or does anyone want to join up?

Usually when we have that happen we let them know how to set up mics and such. Go to options and select either voice activation or push to talk.

There are typically lobbies set up for new players as well. If you like you can add me to TS. Sandpit_RMA and if you need help with it and I'm on I'll be more than happy to help you set it up, even if you don't want to join Marik and partake in our award-winning space bacon.

EDIT:
Also for the servers, its' easiest to just copy and paste the server info (including passwords) and then bookmark them in TS. That way when you fire up TS you have all your servers bookmarked and can just simply click on the server you'd like to join.

Ok... so what is the best way to pick a match?

So far i played 3... and no clue why... pugs, was totally gun... won two! the other was a blow out, and we caught up...but in the end they took it.. Very fun match over all...

Both wins i still had a mech left.. No kills, :(... Many assists,,

anywho... fun day... but i must ask, is there a way to get better matches>>> the ones i found i just picked around, and jumped in a cue. But I really way just playing, point and click adventure by that point.

thoughts?

This time last year I was in the same boat as you - TS - Why would I want to do that?

It's totally worth it. Literally, it opens all of the doors in MWO, the doors to the greater aspects of the game, and the larger community as a whole. As far as TS itself - mostly you need to adjust your mike input levels, a little tweaking here and there, you'll get it right sooner or later. After that you really never touch the settings ever again.

Then the fun begins... get with different teams, acquire addresses for the various TS hubs out there, build up a big list of friends and acquaintances. The thing is, there is a massive volume of information related to this game. You need to be in communication with the experienced players who can get you reading the right information, they can get you on the fast track to the info you need to know. Certainly, there is not enough time in the day for you to find it all on your own.

Embrace the system. I know it is far from perfect, but it works well enough in it's own way. Most of the people here are damned good people, not to mention very funny. I cannot recall how many moments of extreme hilarity have occurred in my life like they have here over the past year. This kind of entertainment is simply hard to beat.

Also - stompy robots kill stuff smash oh my!
