I have the chat keys bound to the default t and y but when typing, the chat window sometimes pops up with an extra t or y like in this pic. Seems to happen if i press y, cancel without entering a message, then press y again to open a new chat.

It is happening frequently for me. I have TeamChat bind to "NUMPAD+" and AllChat to "NUMPAD-" on numerical keyboard, so when I type something, it looks like:

+heading to GAMMA.

Weird thing is, it doesn't happen everytime.

Its strange that technical support is telling me that they have never received any reports about this before, because im pretty sure this was reported ages ago...

Maybe it went missing somewhere in this forum (seems like for ever "serious" bug report there are like 10-20 complain-only threads. Would be suprised if important things go missing like that...)

Did you contanct support via email for this?

Yea i did. They told me they have never received any reports regarding the chat issue and asked me to run the repair tool (which appears to be their standard troubleshooting advice these days).

That being said this chat issue you're encountering isn't currently an issue we're aware of as this is the first ticket we've received about this problem.

Nah, it is the standard advice everywhere: Double check, reboot, try automatic repair system.
Reason is, on the one hand there are a looot of issues, which can be fixed by the above methods and on the other hand if it is such a issue, you could have a lot of troubles reproducing them. Problems which cannot be reproduced are very hard to fix :)
Both things need a lot of time, which cannot be spent to solve other problems :)

Just let the repair tool run through one time, make screenshot again after the issue appears the next time, and tell them you repaired and the problem still occurs. Also, put the link to this thread into the email, saying there are other people having this issue.

Chat does more weird **** to me than that. It has scrambled things to inconpreshension with adding multiple letters, mixed up 2 separate chat strings I have entered, eating half the sentence, double posted and just blanked the line.

Chat has been broken since forever.

Duplicate messages
Messages that disappear into the void
Letters still triggering hotkeys while typing (ie "Epsi!" triggers a power down because of 'p')
Messages being lost between screens
Lost messages half sending when sending a new message on the next screen

It's seriously borked, and I'm glad I can now use VOIP most of the time

Note some of the dates - April 2014, but it was broken since at least Open Beta when I started playing

It's definitely a thing. Has been since I started. Not a big deal I guess but you're right that it seems to happen when you open the chat box, close it and then open it again.

It might be your keyboard repeat delay settings being too short. I've never seen it happen, but you might try adjusting this:
http://windows.micro...ter-repeat-rate

Note, even though it says for Win XP it still applies to Vista, and Win 7, and I assume Win 10 but I can't check that right now.

I had to send them videos of it happening, but it has been logged as a bug for a long time now.

Okay i dont know if it will work for anyone else (or if its the patch doing it) but tech support told me to do a clean install of my nvidia drivers. This problem appear to have been fixed, so you guys might want to try it.
