Hello, everyone...

I'm a new player, having just started the game a few days ago, and have also only just started playing Community Warfare mode. I've just recently had some serious sleep issues, and managed to land up falling asleep at the computer while searching for a match in the middle of the day. I was watching the screen for maybe 10 minutes at the time, and then I discovered myself suddenly popping awake (for what I can only guess to be about 50 minutes later, after the matchmaker had auto-attached me) to realize that I had been dropped into battle, and that almost all of my team had already been downed. Sadly this meant that at least 3 of my team, and the entire enemy team, were all upset at me. I barely managed to pull myself to long enough to take down just one enemy mech, deal a small keg of damage to some others, and then that was it for the match. As you can very much imagine, I'm already completely embarrassed and severely sorry, even though the game system didn't give me enough time to say so to all of them.

Anyway, here's the serious question... Can I be reported -- and possibly banned this early on, even though this would be my very first violation -- for a Code Of Conduct violation such as Non-Participation, albeit that I tried to put up a fight at the last but got blasted away like a wounded and weary dog? :(

(p.s.: Moderators, if you happen to read this thread, please ask a PGI staff member to post back with a definitive answer? I would appreciate it in the extreme.)

I could have sworn I had already replied to this but nevermind

yes you can be reported but you are highly unlikely to get into any trouble over it.

to get into trouble you have to be reported several times.

"Persistent non-participation in core game mechanics." is the offense which applies but a single incident cannot be classed as persistent.

you only have to worry about this if it happens frequently, and if it happens again possibly explain the situation to your team, if someone explains the situation and apologizes I would be much less likely to report them.

here is a link to the code of conduct:
http://mwomercs.com/...nduct-expanded/

I suggest reading it so you understand what you can potentially get in trouble (or report other players) for

Thanks for both the reply and the link... I'll give it a read.

BTW, how do I stop to apologize when I'm already being smacked on, and the game system won't let me have enough time to talk between spawns?

LoL!

I wouldn't worry about it, does say something to the state of CW though.

May I suggest attending to your "serious sleep issues" with some medical help? What you describe is not a healthy thing. First you get your sleep issue sorted, then obsess about the arcane details of MWO. Good luck!

if you have a microphone hold down caps lock and talk, using the in-game VOIP

I only had the problem due to lost sleep because of something else that wasn't MWO. Definitely failed in thinking I could use MWO as a way to fight off sleep, though.

I tried that... It didn't help much because not everyone with an indicated VoIP enable has it set to actually playback from MWO's program. Even worse, some people have TeamSpeak running while Windows is set to allow Exclusive Mode on the microphone device and such, blocking me from communicating properly with them. :(

Any idea how to handle when I'm virtually out of options, short of just giving up fighting and instead chatting?

Eh, it's in the past. Don't worry about it now. Things happen in RL sometimes.

When I first started to try cw I didn't know how queues worked. Now that I understand them I have much shorter wait times (like 10 minutes or so) as opposed to waiting an hour every time like before. I totally feel for you on falling asleep because that has happened to me.

One thing you might try is to do something active while waiting. I used to play solitaire and check the MWO screen periodically - as long as you do that every few minutes you will be fine. Keeping your mind active helps you not fall asleep. A better solution, what I do now, is to run with a group and be on teamspeak with them. You can talk with them and that will help, plus you'll do better in CW.

As far as nonparticipation goes, the violation is for *intentional* nonparticipation. If something like this happens just tell the team and apologize. They will generally understand. They won't be as happy, but they aren't likely to report you in that case. And yeah, multiple reports will eventually lead to an investigation. There's still a chance you won't be punished there and as I understand you can give your side of the story at that time. Even then there are warnings and short bans in their quiver (like 3 days). I would expect a total ban to be only in severe cases, like cheating.

In this case you did nothing wrong. Just try and get sleep when you start to feel too tired. And welcome to MWO!

Welcome to MWO DV Devnull!

As stated above, one time is not a big deal, you apologized that goes a long way and most players will understand, no one is perfect. I fell asleep once (more than once and was usually killed for it, as expected), but the one time while moving in my Timber and I woke up about a minute later and found out that I had managed to move across the map, thru the battle, and ran into a wall (frozen city, I think) without anyone noticing me (no damage)....don't know how *that* happened!

As mentioned, get your sleep straight and then your MWO playing more than likely will improve.

Have Fun!
