Do they play different? yeah you gotta play the game a little different than a clan machine. No they don't have this "IMMORTAL XL ENGINE!!!" but jesus I look at my mech just about every time I die and MOST of the time there's hardly anything left when my XL goes. Sometimes I get target fixated, stop rolling and poof I go down but that's me being dumb. It is a clan advantage but you guys over hype it.
Honestly there's differences but some of the hardcore IS whiners really just need to sack up, stop playing trash mechs and realize the Clans have junk ass mechs all the same.
Now with the new quirks, my lord the amount of damage an IS machine can take before dropping. You can really feel it in the Atlases and the Marauder 3R..

"Your side sucks!"
"No! Your side sucks more!"
LOL!
Hey, I'm just digging the Marauder enough that I gave in, bought the BH2, and completed the set despite the fact that I suck as a Marauder pilot. I used to feel like that about the Jester too...but it became my favorite mech. And then Marauder....
I have the Rifleman on order. Hope it's this much fun. The quirkening was interesting-a 3R doesn't go down til its armor is stripped. I've had matches where I literally had no armor on anything when I went down. It ain't deity mode but it's about a step down from a TBR and I can live with that.

I haven't played much lately, but I suspect the MAD will have some nerfs coming along at some point. It's the IS's closest thing to a Timber Wolf right now, but that might fade as people learn better how to kill them easily. I haven't found the Achilles heal in it yet, but there may very well be one.

This isnt meant as a 'the grass is greener!' post, I just wanted to voice my absolute confusion towards the player base's thoughts on what balance really is.
IS is not easy mode. In fact, Clan still is.
1) To configure an IS mech optimal it is much more experienced required then for clan mechs.
2) Many IS mechs are mixed loadout, while next to all C-Omni can be focused on one or two weapon systems.
3) C-Omni still have better tech (free case, C-XL, lighter weapons, more range, equipment consume overall less space result in cooler mechs because of more heatsink space)
4) C-Omni have next to no unusable chassis. Any CT can be mixed with any other variant. XPing clan mechs is therefore much more easier.
5) They have blue HUDs. HELLO!! BLUE HUDS !!!111
6) See point 1) to 5)

I think you recall incorrectly, given that you said "walking" instead of "flying".

Great balance there. Its almost as if PGI wants to shoehorn everyone running IS mechs into laser boats....
Also does anyone still not know how to counter clan laser vomit? I bumped into several in the last couple of days of CW vs wolf and smoke jaguar, and they were a piece of cake to deal with as long as you didnt give them 10+ seconds to cool between alphas.

Most benefits of the "superior"of clan xl engines and lighter weight weapons vanish once you get into brawling range because of their inability to keep sustained fire up. Sure there are some exceptions and I generally hate AC/Gauss wales, but I don't really fear anything the clans bring to the table.
Take into account that I own both clan and is mechs and play both equally. I generally feel the IS mechs are better overall and can more than make up for the "lower" tech level with their positive aspects.

In all seriousness a lot of IS mechs are stupid good now (case and point the Blackjack 1-x) and a lot of my clan mechs just feel sad in comparison. I'm not crying about any of it, but i feel that it's true.

I suppose it depends on how you define better. Some are better than others and vice versa, but I do find the IS mechs on the whole more enjoyable to pilot than the Clan mechs. However, that doesn't really speak to which is superior from a balance standpoint. With yesterdays changes I would say the difference in how they feel has been greatly exasperated.

Good pilots aren't "OP"
smh
You have to take into account the breakdown:
A "good" pilot is only "good" if they win that match. Therefore, the "good" pilot who wins a match and then loses the next is becomes "bad" for 3 matches. If you account for the natural progression of skill level, then you have to divide the number of matches by the number of wins. Thus you get what we pros like to call a "win/Loss Record"
This "win/loss Record" is often the basis to determine a "good" pilot.
noob

I'm just saying that in all the years I've played MWO that is the absolute first time I've ever heard IS mechs called "easy mode" in comparison to clan mechs.
That's how I know PGI has done a pretty decent balance job. If people weren't complaining and talking about how everything but their chosen faction, weapon, mech, etc. is "op", then I'd be worried lol
