I just wondered how different types of critical damage will be implemented.

1) When completely losing one of two legs, will you tip over, be unable to move or just move very slowly?

2) When your left/right torso gets destroyed, will you then lose a perfectly fine arm mounted to that part of the torso, too?

3) If you've got an XL-Engine mounted and your left/right torso gets wrecked, will you instantly die, just build up heat or sth. like that or will you just move slower and have other drawbacks?

Anyone with hands-on experience won't be able to answer these without breaking NDA... but I don't yet have beta access, so I will answer based on what I have seen (in pics / vids) and read:

1) "Destruction" of one leg will leave you limping - very slow movement, but still alive. Both legs will end you.

2) Not 100% sure, but it seems like this is a "no".

3) Also not 100% sure, but I think this is a "yes" - XL engine means that complete loss of a side torso will core you (it did in TT, and indications seem to be it does in MWO as well).

Hopefully, they'll be implemented well, that's all I've got to say. ;)

Thx a lot. ;)

This way XL-Engines have a clear drawback. Get tonnage for more weapons and stuff but die more easily. Sounds fair.

Answers 1 & 3 look great. On your second question I would ask you to define losing the arm mounted to that part of the torso. Losing the use of the arm and anything in it is a given. Will you have to pay to replace it is a tougher answer and depends on what factorst the devs use in determining that. Let's say your side wins the game, do you retrieve the arm and it gets reinstalled when the torso is rebuilt. If you lose is that arm then lost as well and do you have to pay to have it completely replace. How much damage was done to the arm prior to losing your torso would also have to be factored in.

in tabletop, if you lose a side torso, the arm falls to the ground and you leave it on the battlefield (where it can be picked up and used as a 'club' possibly).

at least that's the way me and my friends play it.

A while back, in a [REDACTED] video it appeared that an Atlas had its entire right torso destroyed (went black on the damage readout) but the right arm was still physically attached and appeared functional.

Now of course this is still in the beta testing, so it could change. That may have been a bug, or they may have found that taking the torso out was too easy of a way to remove enemy mech viability in the game. No way of knowing outside of direct word from a Dev.

I agree with the second paragraph in the above post by WardenWolf - seems like a solid no answer answer which is about all we can really give in the end (barring a dev weighing in).

As to number 3, the beta story post from today confirms that if you have an XL engine and lose the left or right torso your mech dies.

Edit to add quote:

Quote

My Gauss destroys his LRM/SRM’d left torso (really?) as I discover to my chagrin that this Atlas is not using an XL engine.
