I need a recommendation for a third Wolverine. I have the 7D(L) and 7K. Are there any other good variants or should I just GXP boost through one? I'm not adverse to dropping money on the hero if it's worth it but it doesn't look that special.

I'd get the 2AC5 variant, as its fun. Can really lay the hurt out with that thing, even though the quirks aren't as broken as they used to be.

If you like the D(L) and K, you will probably like all of them. I have all but the Quarantine, and I have enjoyed playing them all. That said I prefer the other 55 ton IS mechs over them, mostly because it is easy to loose your main weapon arm.

I never got the Quarantine, but have entertained doing so on the 50% off sales. The reason I held off is the general consensus in the forums at the time where it was and underwhelming mech.

If that is correct it leaves the 6K and 6R for you.
IMO you can't go wrong with either.
I like the 6K because I can boat 5 energy and run around at super fast speeds.
I like the 6R because I can use ASRM6's and rock people with a missile boat, and not loose my main weapons early. Or I can run around with Dual AC5's in my arm, which is also quite fun. Although loosing that arm can be pretty frustrating.

The big negative on the 6K is it does not have JJ. However of the two I liked that one more, just because it was a different experience when compared to the other variants.

The quirks of the Quarantine do provide it with more toughness than any of the other variants. So if you are indeed willing to drop the $, that is what I would do.

That said, I did not enjoy any of the Wolverines. It is not that they are terrible or anything, it is more that anything they can do can be done far better by other mechs. (SRMs and ML go Griffin, Ballistics go HB or SH, etc.).

I really like the "original" variant, the 6R. You can run it as a quick SRM brawler, while some people run a pair of AC/5's for which the 'mech gets great quirks (-30% cooldown). Personally I prefer a "superstock" loadout with a single AC/5 and 3xSRM6.

6K is one of the best mechs in the game.
7D is one of the most useless.
7K is a great brawler that's really good in scouting mode.
6R is fun and can be situationally effective.
Q is a weird conglomeration between the K and R.

6K for sure. If buying WVRs, it should be 6K, 7K and pick 'em IMO. The 6K isn't as great as it was, but it's still very good. The 6R is a better version of your 7D, the Q I've never bought because, well, it's just a weird hash and I'm not going to spend real money on that.

7D seems to play best with what's basically a port-over of the 6R dakka build. Sure, 6R does it better, but if you've already got the 7D, may as well basic it. (I have a troll build I like, but I wouldn't call it "good.")

6K is still nice for laser-boating, 7K obviously for SRMs.

It means that the strategy with Wolvies is to just pick up the variety pack for levelling: 1 laser, 1 missile, 1 dakka (6R best, or 7D(L) cuz already haz nao). Unless you're a dakka junkie, of course, in which case enjoy your 6R ;)

Q is still "hrm, idunno," for me. Terc framed its "tossed hardpoint salad" nature nicely by calling it a hash. I'd troll it with an AC5 and 2LL, or go seriors with lasers and missiles. Maybe even an inferior 6K with 3LPL. The lack of the head laser is oddly off-putting for me.

I feel like I'm the only player out there who likes the WVR-7D(L). It's a bit hard-point limited, but for me the way around is to put something big in the hard-points you do have. I put an AC/10 in the arm, which becomes a nice weapon with those 20% cooldown and 20% velocity quirks. You can also pack decent secondary armament with 2 x SRM6 (again 20% cooldown quirk) and 1 x ML/MPL. Good range-bracket synergy between all weapons.

I'm now running it like this. It works well enough in solo queue, but once mastered will be stripped without hesitation or remorse. It's a junk variant.

Frankly, I never even considered the Wolverine chassis until I got the free (L) variant and even then, it sat around completely unused until after the MASC buff when I decided to see if it was any good. It's hardpoints make it hard to minmax the way everyone wants to but there's something about it that has earned itself a place in my heart. That being said, I am an avid Vindicator pilot so I think loving the unappreciated is just what I do.
