Let my son play with the cardboard cutouts from the original box set of battletech (for those who remember)...

you folded them over...and had the front of the mech on one side, back on the other.

He is only 4...and was asking what each name was - so i was telling him ..

"Marauder .... Warhammer.. Rifleman ....Archer ...Shadow hawk ....Wolverine..."

And it made me sad ..that for all the unseen crap , these great looking mechs might never be seen....

Loved the look of them so much !

We can always hope. Wasnt there somethign where the makers of Robotech mad the makers of Battletech change the looks because of copyright infringements.

I have those paper ones on my computer desk right now, with a bunch of plastic ones too. Hopefully one day we might see them in the game if Pirahna are allowed to buy the right to use them, not sure how likely that is though.

I still have the paper mechs too! Loved the Shadowhawk and the Warhammer still hoping that someone will give in and we can see the unseen once more.

A.T.M. I watch Macross (1982).
Very, very good space soap opera. But everytime I see a Destroid or any other Unseen design it makes me sad too.

and the reality is that they stole someone elses intellectual property and got bagged then tried to fight over it in court and lost. who was the big loser?
the Japanese artis that invented them and drew them on cells to make anime movies.
get over it.

I know what you mean. Of course the source designs were well thought out. It was a shame battletech drifted away from the mecha design asthetics that have been established in Japan.

I really think a lot of the designs from Dark Ages were a good leap forward. Even these new ones look pretty good. I think from a design standpoint, they were often too top heavy.

Still it's hard to replace the warm fuzzies from the mechs we learned to play with. The set I started with was the plastic miniature version, I think circa 87-88. It's a matter of nostalgia and what we remember, particularly if we are going back to that time.

They didn't steal them. They bought them, but when HG bought the original authors, we "lost" the rights for US and those thieves knew it.

No other mechs can match the flavor and Flair of the original unseen. It amazes me that the situation is sooo... complicated as to rights. It's not that Harmony Gold, of hateful and seditious memory, plans to do anything with the designs. the things that happen because of greed and sheer human contrariness!

AH yes the screwing one gets in dealing with others. And who looses out we do, the commerce people the ones who pay for those things or services. I miss the wolverine as well as the riffleman.

Completely wrong. The court loss was FASA suing Playmates for stealing the design to create Exosquad. After that loss, FASA was afraid to go to court when Harmony Gold sued them over the use of the designs, so they just said screw it, and settled.

I wouldn't trust anyone on what happened between FASA and HG unless sources are given.
