I am trying to pick between the Zeus and the Mauler as my IS Assault mech. Assuming that the Mauler is released for MC on the 15th that is.. :)

Generally I prefer to stick with a standard engine and mostly play with ACs and SRM, with lasers as more filler/black up weapons. So, what would folks suggest? :)

Thanks!

With how slow the Mauler is, and how big of a target it is, I'm pretty wary of piloting it. I do have it, I just hate how slow it is overall.

The Zeus is much more nimble.

This is true, but my feelings are the opposite.

Slow speed of the Mauler doesn't bother me because of the firepower it can bring. Speed on the zeus is nice but the hardpoints aren't as flexible and a lot of the firepower is in the arms.

Both are solid mechs, I think it comes down to whether you want more speed or weaponry.

I have both and they both quite good i think.
The Mauler is slower but seems to hold more firepower, in particular i use the MX90. Its tough but with support can really throw out damage. I usually take this on the MX90.

2x LB10X, 1x PPC on one side and 1x SRM6, 3x MG, 1x SL. Good at all ranges, takes some getting used to however with support it does more damage the closer you get great for pushes

The Zeus is also quite tough especially the 5S,and is also good at zombieing if you use STD engines. Also will move faster than most assaults ive used and can do decent damage, but not as much as most heavier assaults. I have been using the 6S like this.

1x AC2, 1x Gauss rifle, 4x ML. a little light on firepower, but the ac2 helps throw off the opponents aim while the Gauss cools down and the MLs with modules are great for close defence, plus with the STD 320 it moves at 69kph so its fast for an assault.

As for load out, the Zeus is better for energy weapons i find, more hardpoints and some useful quirks.
Ballistics will generally be better on the Mauler, and missiles work well on both.

Hit boxes are by far better on the Zeus, quite easy to protect the CT. Mauler is really big and wide and the CT gets dropped often.
I like both for different roles, hopefully this helps you

Mauler doesn't have to be slow, but for the Zeus, which I LOVE, I recommend a 320 STD. Nimble, gives you enough room for some big weapons, and real survivable. Seriously the Zeus' CT buffs are nice.

the Zeus is the better choice, and im a big Mauler fan but in this game its not on par with other assaults. save some cbills and get a Zeus

I like both. Zeus is one of the better scaled mechs but lost alot of it's quirks, it's far less tanky than it was before. The Mauler can run some strong ballistic builds, it's wide and slow sure, but that's the trade off for all that dakka. If you like mixed builds, Zeus, if you like ballistics, mauler.

For what it's worth, i've stripped all but one of my Zeus' after the patch and not one of my Maulers. With the changes to the AC2 i've had a ton of fun with the six barrel MX90 and with the buff to the lb ammo the quad lb10 mauler is quite the wrecking ball.
