I know this will ruffle some grognard feathers, but I wouldn't mind seeing weapons that don't necessarily exist in the lore to help introduce more variety to the game.
For instance, how about:
-Snub nose AC/2: Take a standard AC/2 and cut down the barrel, reducing weight by one ton, but reducing its range to 540m and velocity to 1500 m/s.
-Snub nose AC/5: Same as above, but with range reduced to 450m and velocity to 1000 m/s.
-Caseless ammunition: Not really a weapon, but an ammo type. Removing the metal casing reduces the weight of each round, increasing ammo/ton. However, removing the casing increases heat per shot by an appropriate amount. Applies to all autocannons except maybe LBX? These would require a modification to the weapon's inner workings, making them incompatible with standard cased ammo.
None of these would be particularly lore-unfriendly. It's not like sawing off a bit of a weapon barrel is particularly difficult work. Caseless ammo already exists today.

As one of the old grognards - make an unlimited Solaris mode, and you guys can do whatever you like there.

I don't think the game has enough of a playerbase to support another separate gamemode like that. CW participation is bad enough already.

All three things already exist in the BattleTech Universe:
Light AC-2
Light AC-5
- they have shorter range, but they weigh less
Caseless Ammo
- you can fill your ammo bins with the double amount of ammo
- misfire can destroy your AC

Caseless ammo does exsist in TT, it gives double ammo per ton, with the drawback of any to hit roll of 2 with that weapon, causes a brake in the ammo feed, rendering that weapon useless. On top of that you cannot use other special ammo types with that weapon.

CW participation is bad because the mode is bad. Make a good mode and people will play it.

This is the CW issue.
I have 0 problems adding more weapon tech, or info tech if they want to fix ecm/angel/null sig into seperate units.

Wow, I completely forgot about Light autocannons!
Still, there's no reason a tech can't take a giant hacksaw to some autocannon barrels to try to make the weapons lighter...
