People say this but you know alot of the vets are going to spout out "Learn2Play" when the obviously new players complain in game

These suggestions need to be pinned for the current MWO community, to be perfectly honest. I'm so tired of hearing about how Steam players need to be coddled, or they're bad, or they somehow forget to read.

QP and CW pug drops contain some of the most toxic and unskilled players I have ever seen. 99.9% (not a scientific measure*) of the time in a QP match, no one talks; not even in text. People fly off in all different directions hoping to secure that leet kill, without actually paying attention to their surroundings.

CW is even worse as you might expect more skilled play, but that simply is not the case. Even when I was with a decent pre-made clan we were rolling a little short at one point so we grabbed some pugs in the lobby.

He has 2 assault mechs that barely move above 50, on a counterattack. The second we drop he starts yelling at us to mark targets for him because his "elite lurm boat" did an entire 600dmg in one match! When he fails to keep up with the push by a large margin, he begins to berate the team about how bad we are and how we 'let' him die. People told him to bring a 'real mech' next time.

Someone from the enemy team made a joke about how they were fighting off an entire wave of Thunderbolts, to which he quipped, "Oh right, the "good" mech". And quickly followed that up with a 'just joking' as to imply the Thunderbolt was not the frontline fighter for the IS.

TL: DR -

The community could not be any worse than it already is. The only way you can actually get a good match is to join a pre-made group. That in itself is expected, but don't think for a second that the current community that mostly play solo will ever help the new players to learn, in fact it's more than likely they will be worse players because of it.

This community needs encouragement more than anything. Most popular Steam games have integrated VOIP and the skill ceiling for games is much higher than this stompy robot laser shooter.

Hence, my request not to. Or, more importantly, for the adults in the room to speak up and say, "Ignore that guy. Try torso twisting next time. After you shoot, swing your reticle to the right as you wait for your weapons to recharge. When they're ready, swing back and fire again. This spreads damage and lets you survive longer."

Seriously, one pilot being helpful can slice through waves of a$$holes when it comes to early new player experience.

So, I certainly agree with some of the sentiments here. Some people won't take advantage of what another person offers, regardless of how it is framed. Those people are always right, in their minds.

That said, we're talking about new players from steam, many of whom will have the potential to skill up and become assets. All they need is practice and helpful advice. If even one player out of 24 in a match takes some time to be helpful, it will make an impact for a new player that likes the game and wants to get better.

TL:DR. CHOOSE to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Maybe all "experienced" players should play support mechs when MWO goes live on Steam. I'll play my 3 AMS,Narc,Tag Kitfox with 1MLAS. Or maybe my Narc,Tag Raven. Help the new players.
