They're standalone. Black Knight is an expansion to Vengeance, but Mercenaries can work without Vengeance, and vice-versa.

But the original MW4 was Vengeance.

Vengeance, love that game playing it now.

Sure the gameplay is lacking compared to other MW games but the story is very good.

Do you save your sister or let her die?

EDIT : damn i got double ninjad!

Vengeance was definitely first, it's got some very bad voice acting but I like it. You can get Mercenaries for free from Mektek, it's slightly better eventhough the storyline isn't as dramatic.

Ignore everything you see about mercenaries and the mech packs, they have been usurped by mekteks free release of mercenaries, which also has the mech paks, as well as dozens of other mechs to pilot. The story is ok in vengeance, but i've always thought mercenaries was the better game, both technically and story wise. My favorite missions in black knight were the ones where they give you a choice of missions and give you mechs. They've yet to make a mechwarrior game where you're part of a regular line unit, with plenty of equipment and support. I guess that takes the suspense out of things :/

Of course you had things to do. You had Solaris to do.

Yeah, like others have said Vengeance is first, but to be honest, Mercenaries was probably the better game. You could do a lot more with it, there were more mechs, and of course, Solaris. But I'm probably biased, because I always enjoyed the Merc side of the Battletech universe.
