Anyone have commentary on the play-ability of Victors since the last buff/nerf pass? How about the Highlander? Compare/contrast that sort of thing.

I have a soft spot for jump jet capable mechs and from my TT days the Victor was the old-school go to for Assaults. I'd consider the Highlander as well.

In particular regard to the Victor, I have this recollection that when the last round of buffs/nerfs were proposed, there was some talk of Victors being brought back to life...perhaps not enough to make them truly shine, but enough to make them worth playing now and again. Since then however, I have heard nothing and seen only a couple in game.

In short: Are the Victors worth getting to fill the role of a "mobile assault"? In that same vein, how about the Highlanders (they seem even more rare in game, and I don't think I have ever seen one jump)? Right now I run a Zeus when I want a faster assault, but would really like something that jumps too. Any thoughts on these two mechs would be appreciated.

I think to begin with is, the fact that table top doesn't translate well in shooting type of game. So, don't expect anything fancy from Vic and Highlander.

Before nerf, Vic is the poptart. After nerf, just use the JJs as pebble jumper.
Similar with Hignlander, think of it as like Banshee with JJ, or a slight beefier Vic in exchange the manuverabilty. (or something like that)

They are okay right now, Vic is still a mobile assault if played correctly, but seems shadowed by Zeus.

Both of these mechs are a complete joke. Buy them if you feel like making your life 10x harder.

I don't think the Victor is a joke. It's sort of a 65 ton heavy with more armor. It may not be the equal of the more favored assaults, mostly because of the limited hardpoints, but you can carry the heaviest guns available and they are XL-viable. I like the Dragon Slayer very much, but I do prefer the lighter heavies more.

Big fan of HGNs and VTRs from back when they were the must have, meta mechs.

I thought I'd chime in after playing about 10 matches in my HGN 733. I decided to try this variant out because it got some pretty good AC10 and Missile quirks. I went with a STD 320, AC10, 4 X SRM4 and 2 Mpulse. I think 1 JJ.

It's got great DPS when you're in close. The AC10 rate of fire is really impressive and if you have good flanking position on an enemy assault that is distracted, the heat efficient DPS of the SRMs is awesome. That being said, I only had 1 win doing 710 dmg and 3 kills, the rest of the matches were absolute rofl stomps, where I could barely do 2-300 dmg.

This particular variant just doesn't have much going for it against high mounted laser boats. You can't trade long range, and it's still fragile enough that you can't spearhead a push the way an Atlas or a Banshee can right now. So that just means you have to follow a 'real' assault mech or something fast enough to distract for you and hope to get a good flank attack.

With the quirks, I think its a fun brawler but it's definitely not enough to make the HGN a mech that I'd expect to carry a team with. I think that the decreased speed tweak (since skill trees have been reduced) shave off enough top speed to be pretty noticeable on the battlefield.

It's good to see some other HGNs out, but my impression is that it didn't get reinvigorated the same way the Atlas's did with the most recent patch.

I love me my highlanders. Now, since the gauss nerf, I don't play em as much, but, were I to suggest a HGN to anyone,I'd suggest the 733C. Even unupgraded it is an impressive beast.

As for not seeing them jump, that's because jump jets aren't that great. I only keep one jump jet for hill climbing.

been doing the what mech challenge

http://mwomercs.com/...mech-challenge/

got victors. been playing them in Super Stock mode

best one so far is

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...be11226799451eb

position is everything. basically a 200m with a good alpha. not great just good. use the JJs to get the drop on a big assaults and beat down the back armor. also real good at removing arms. this is not a spray and pray mech. lone dire wolves are as good as dead if you get close and keep behind them. this thing does not face tank. chain firing the srm2s at a cockpit will make most pilots backup. while the ac20 cools off, beware though the srms run hot. the 2 mls are more of an after thought. your main weapon is the ac20 pin point on weak spots and mechs fall down.

get in close and be very aggressive. if you have to run away you are dead.
