if you use steam you will still be able to log into your existing mwo account. Not sure if they made steam your steam account connected with your MWO account so you do not have to seperately type in log in info later after it is connected.
Ubisoft games in steam have not such a link, it requires you everytime to log in additonally on the ubisoft account. (which sux)
Dragons prohpet, faild totally, becaue your steam account made a seperate DP account and it was not possible to link your old account to the steam client and buy steam dlc's for players on the non steam account.
However as I read in the FAQ
Quote
Q: Will my existing MWO profile carry over?
Yes. After downloading MWO through Steam and logging in with your regular MWO credentials, if Steam detects existing profile data for that MWO account on your computer from an existing MWO install, it will use that profile data.
The same profile data is used by Steam and the standalone MWO client.

You log into MWO with your MWO account, not your steam account.
The Steam client will have a separate install, but that has no relation to your account.

Yeah tried to say that, seperate accounts, one for steam, one for MWO. At least as I understood that.

But your account is not bound to your installation.
Usually in steam, when you downlaod steam and install and start a game there is mostly 3 things:
you have to register a seperated accoutn at the game: In this case they have ni link to each other.
The game creates an account on your Steam ID, in this case your steam Account is directly bound to your ingame account.
The Steam account links to a seperate gameaccount by storing your logindata and automatically logs into the game with your games account information.
In this case if you want to use another account with your steamaccount you either have to contact steam support to unlock these accounts so a new first login registers the games account used in this process. Or if the game has the ingame option to logout and log in you cna change to another account. But then steam often does not relink itself with the newer account.
And as the FAQ state, your steam account will be seperated to your MWO account. This means steam does NOT create a new MWO account. You cna use the Steam downlaoded version and get with your old account into MWO. The FAQ however does not state if this will create a 1:1 link with automated logging into the MWO account. It does also not state if you have to seperately log in at any gamestart as currently. (But I guess this is what we will have).

The way it works is this:
If you make/have made an MWO account on MWO you will experience no difference in the gaming and will be able to play either via the MWOmercs.com client or the steam.com client.
If you make an MWO account on Steam you will experience no difference difference in the gaming and will be able to play either via the MWOmercs.com client or the steam.com client. However your MWO account will (most likely, based on how others do it)have a "made on Steam" marker on it in the back-end system, which will give Steam some funds depending on the contract they have with PGI.
The "Steam Only" items will have to be bought via through a Steam account and put onto an MWO account that has been linked to that Steam Account (either when created on Steam or afterwards if it was created on MWO). But they will then be applied to your account and playable via either client.
There may be some future differences, but the standard routine is to use Steam as a display/shop-front/advert, rather than to move everything onto Steam itself.

Needs one of the file junkies to tell us where the configs for these are. Especially mouse sensitivity settings is what I care about and maybe wepaon groups as well. because they totally suck to be redone on every mech.

Then again I might just keep both because we also use my steam account as the family room game account, then I can play MWo while the family plays other games.

The first question in the FAQ covers this as well.

"Profile Data" is your settings, including video, audio, key bindings, etc. It is stored somewhere in your Documents or AppData area in windows I think, which means your game files in Steam or where you installed MWO currently don't matter, they both point to that common area.

might give it a go on steam install. Don't know why but would feel tidier. Also hopefully I will no longer have to click ok on that warning thing every time I start the game

What warning thing? UAC warning, I presume, because the client needs to run as administrator.
Steam is just going to launch the same client you are using now. You are likely going to get the same warning.
