OK,
I really don't want to download all 8GB again. So, can anyone tell me what the path for MWO is in the Steam library so I can do the ol cut n paste/
Did this with other games and no problemos...

And while we're at it, can anyone tell me where to stick the user.cfg file? I've just been using the system.cfg for ever. And every time the game is verified, it gets "repaired". The only setting in there is turning off the film grain.
Thanks ya'll

Something posted to my local group, I'm not sure how accurate, try at your own risk.

"Installing MWO on steam without redownloading files:

1) Go to the MWO Steam page, and start the install. This will begin pulling down bits into the \SteamApps\Downloading location. Cancel the download -- all we want is the .ACF file to be placed on the drive (what Steam uses to ID what is in your library).

2) Ensure that a new .ACF file with today's time stamp shows up (appmanifest_342200.acf for example) or copy the MWO url from Steam, the last part of the string is the file we want.

3) Copy this .ACF file to a safe location. You will need to paste it back in later.

4) Now that we've got the manifest file sitting in \steamapps\, Right-Click MWO in your library and delete local content. This will effectively remove those few downloaded bits, and remove it from your library.

5) Make a new directory called "Mechwarrior Online" in the \steamapps\common directory. Copy just the contents "MechWarrior Online" folder (meaning Bin32, Bin64, Engine, Game and so on) from inside the original installation directory to the newly created "Mechwarrior Online" folder. You don't need "MWOUpdate" folder at all.

6) Paste the .ACF files back into the /steamapps folder.

7) Go back to the MWO Steam page and install the game (play). It should start an existing file check -- and may pull down 100meg or so with of changed files. Once completed, you should be good to go.

8) Log in and enjoy the endless spam of Achievement popups for a few minutes Posted Image

Its actually simpler then that.

1.Move "mechwarrior online" folder to steam/steamapps/common

2. Go to the steam store page for mwo. click play/install. It wont reinstall everything it just verifies the files you have and downloads few things. takes like 5 mins.

Thats it. you are ready play on steam.

(sorry to necro but this thread comes up in google searches on the topic, might help someone)

I can verify that this works. It simply verified the files, and is now downloading a further 200 MB.
