This is intended as a poll and a thread to show that Ghost heat needs to be replaced and that the removal is supported by a significant majority .

Once there is a significant number of votes then it can be tweeted at Russ and anyone else to draw attention to the fact that Ghost heat is an ineffective system.

If are not aware of the issues and other suggested solutions then a quick search of the forum should do it.

If you have a suggestion or want to link to your suggestion feel free to do so, but I don't intend for this to be a poll on the alternatives. Simply to confirm, what we all know and hopefully draw attention to the issues.

I make this thread because recently read Homeless Bills article on the issues http://www.qqmercs.c...ence-and-clans/

I understand Ghost heat was a solution to a problem and an easy fix. I respect PGI's decision on this and don't want to see any rude comments, because those sort of comments are not helpful to getting change. If you constantly berate and belittle someone they are not likely to change their decision.

Further any and all changes would need extensive testing on the PTS before going live.

A lot of people just say "do away with it", then provide no solution. But this is a good topic because you have good quality links that present the problem and the logic behind the solution.

As of right now I have no quarrel with Ghost Heat, I'm ok with it. Though, I'm sure I'm the minority, because most other people I have talked to say they would like to replace Ghost Heat with something else.

Thanks for the link in the topic, it opened my mind to other possibilities. I will have to think on this for a few days.

basically the same concept as ghost heat except you lose aim vs shutting down and being way more vulnerable. 8 ML firing at once with no penalty is pretty much the current state of the game so it would really only affect assaults and certain heavies and wouldn't really do anything else for lights, mediums, most heavies.

Only solution I could think of that would allow removing ghost heat is to force certain groups of weapons to chain fire in pairs or something while limiting harder hitting weapons to chain firing 1 at a time.

well I have to say I thought it would be overwhelmingly against ghost heat, given the amount of complaining about the system.

However it appears closer than that.

There is a problem to solve and ghost heat gets part of the way there but it feels like it misses a trick. I am not sure what the solution is but homeless Bills idea is certainly well thought out.

I suppose tis poll goes to show that the complainers are not the majority

Scaling up the game is one solution...

I understand the concern about the replacement.

However as said it would be tested. I just wanted to gauge feeling on the issue not discuss solution. But feel free to say what you would not like to see.

Its great to hear someone wanting to abolish ghost heat but.... it is quite better to allow armour to absorb damage without getting reduced i.e like how the battletech ccg used mech hit points and armour values
Atlas http://www.sarna.net...CG_-_Limited%29
Nova http://www.sarna.net..._-_Unlimited%29

This means if weapon damage is much less than enemy mech armour, damage is reduced to zero on the enemy mech.
This would differentiate weapons and make boating of small energy weapons much less effective and it is easy to understand as tank projectiles fired from a T-55 on an M1A2 only bounces off.

Hunckback IIC with 2xAC20 isn't the problem in this game ....

The only thing it could be replaced with is a decent Heat Scale with penalties, may not be the exact same one as TT where the first 10 Heat you make are free but that could be simulated by raising the levels of penalties.
