So i haven't had time to play much or really keep track of the forums. I plan to try and get some play time in this weekend but i gotta ask over all how is steam release going? I saw the player numbers (which its nice we can actually see how many people are playing assuming they are using the steam client) did the queue times improve at all?

has it been the shooting gallery that people were expecting? i did see the mech packs which seem a bit underwhelming but oh well.

There are currently 2,457 in-game right now according to my steam. No telling how many are actually new, as I am sure there are a lot of people who simply transferred over like myself.

Queue times remain about the same. Although I think in general, based on the numbers, it appears successful?

I have no idea how many new people are playing, as I seem to get my butt kicked regardless Posted Image

Judging by the number of unitless/faction less players and the builds I have seen and the conversations I have had in game at tier 4, there are a large number of new players with the steam launch. I was in a round where I was the only player with unit tags on either team. Which is good, I hope they stick around :)

So guessing that is just counting Steam users, not total MWO players, like myself who aren't using Steam?

This afternoon the wait time was much shorter than usual for me, from 1-2 minutes to near instantaneous.

More people "exploring" the map in some matches too.

around 9:30pm CST MWO had moved up to 71th most played game on Steam

Seeing players without unit tags isn't really a good indication to be honest, i've been here since 2012 but choose to just not be in a unit currently since there's no real benefit to being in one right now anyway.

Yeah I know, I was also answering questions like: "how did I end up on the Euro server I am on the west coast of the U.S." and 1sl, 1spl, jenners and LRM cheetahs. So it was a combination of things. When you whole team has no faction selected or a unit with multiple (c) mechs and a couple or the new (s) pack mechs you make assumptions :)

The world didn't end, MWO is still here, and the game is still being updated. I think the naysayers can safely stop now

I don't think Steam can detect the number of players playing a game if they are not doing it through Steam so you are correct with your guess.

The Steam achievements may tell the difference between old players choosing to play with Steam and completely new accounts.

Saw few old players coming back or at least they had downloaded the game to their Steam library and logged in. Hopefully this Steam launch can bring new blood and revive some of the veterans.

pugging CW is rough because right now half the people are new with 4/4 trials or never complete tutorial, 30 min suicide fest.

The highest numbers I saw during closed beta (back when we had a counter) was around 1500, so I guess this is an improvement from 3 years ago.

Correct - it's only instances that have been installed via Steam.

I played a couple of games this morning, and each time my team scattered to the 4 winds and fought in groups of 2s and 3s.

so yeah....plenty of new players.

Since I am in tier 4 right now I got to see some of the newbies. Not quite sure how I'm so low. I mostly blame my 2 medium laser + narc commando, because that was super hard mode compared to any other mech I've piloted.

I only had enough time to play 2 matches today with my King Crab (2 AC/20, 2 Large laser). I haven't played in a few weeks/months cause rea life stuff so my first match was me just being a total derp and charging the tunnel in crimson straight assuming the allies that were next to me would follow.
Remembering that teams do not push in pugland, the second game I pretty much followed an ecm Cataphract that strayed a tiny bit from the group and we just roflstomped the enemy team from behind, and the two of us hardly got damaged while both teams were being chickens. Though, a shadowcat using the exploit of being able to be on top of the wall on HPG was the only thing that could hit me (but he only had 1 large laser, an LRM 5, and something else), though he hid everytime I turned to fight him, so he kinda pissed me off so he caused me to do a push that killed their team.

With these two games I noticed players behaving like they did in closed beta long ago. People waltzing back in forth or standing still staring at you (even as lights/mediums). In the second game I ran into a Quickdraw that just stood still while shooting at me. Which at first spooked me because I usually only see that when I'm literally about to die and/or the enemy is aiming towards my weakspot.

I am happy to play right now, but I think I'll have to hop into something other than my King Crab. Maybe it's just that I'm not used to Assaults, but I feel like I'm cheating in the King Crab...... though.... The last thing I did pilot was a mech with only 2 medium lasers for damage...

Doing really well. It was at least as high as about 65 on steam.
