Lock Begging.

I don`t really get it. Is it bad trying to get people to do some teamwork? I`m not a fan of the LRMs rains, but they are part of the game. Am I begging for locks? No.
I`m begging you to play this game as it should be played.
I ask... "beg" for locks in a respectful way. If you are having a bad day don`t take it out on anybody, take it out in the battlefield, do some team work, have fun, and don`t take it too seriously, after all, this is just a game.

Plus people that ask for locks generally don't know the terrain or how to pick the right targets.

"I plan to sit in the back and lob LRMs while not helping soak damage or get locks myself"

qft
Either sit and wait for locks or get em yourself
But don't order other people to do your work for you
I honestly don't mind people playing lrm boats and sitting in the rear with the beer, but telling others to make your already easy job easier is obnoxious

Really? People who ask for locks are those who like to remind others that this isn't CoD and the TEAM wins by collectively killing the opposition. Those who LRM are called fire support for a reason; support. The tiny bit of cockpit shake and softening of armor can make the difference between a win and a loss.
Also consider that a support fire 'mech puts itself in danger of light rushes or flanking while performing its duty.
It helps if the LRMer will play aggressively and stay close to the main force for protection and being a potential target to help soak up targets, but either way, pressing R will help the TEAM win.

In the Group queue, if you're playing like the PUG LIFE, same rules apply.
If you're trying to play competitive (or practising in the Group Queue) targeting actually alerts the target that they've been spotted (Radar Derp *beep*).
A small thing, irrelevant to the PUG LIFE, but a notable concern for those who don't want to be seen.

The main mechs i use lrm on are blr and Zeus which are hardly lrm spam builds, most of their damage output comes from ac/laser the lrm been more strategic. I like how well it dumb fires on Zeus very useful.
Not a fan of lrm spam myself but i do use them.

That LRM Specialists have to ask for and get denied because some spud thinks this is HERO COD just shows how underhive the spud is in terms of teamwork skills.

when it should actually be translated to...
"I'm going to do a whole lot of damage for you, that will allow you to actually get the kill."

I run a HBK-4J on my alt account and it moves with the team while taging and lrming the whole time. When the team pushes or is being harassed by light mechs I dont hesitate to get in to the melee with my 5 small lasers zapping weak components and body blocking enemy mechs that are trying to maneuver away. My point is asking for locks is fine just dont fit the stereotype of hiding and relying on your team, take some risks help the team.
On another note unless your in a well co-ordinated group try to avoid bringing lrms with you in CW they tend to be dead weight most of the time outside of standard play.

The problem is, I have had games where no locks ever popped up while it's obvious that the frontliners have engaged. When I moved up to get an idea what's going on, it turns out all of the front-liners are just bashing away without locking up... and the enemy has nary an ECM mech.
You're brawling and you're not using target info to know how to efficiently put the enemy mech down into the ground? PGI tout this as a thinking man's shooter, but the thinking has to be done by the pilot. Not targeting even in brawls is not using the brains.
Like I said, LRM support isn't the problem, it's just additional benefits to locking up. Some Mech drivers don't even know the basic advantages of the targeting systems, neither for themselves or their team.

That being said, as an LRM boat it's often so frustrating when you die and you spectate other players in a really close showdown, maybe 6 vs 6 or 4 vs 4 mech, and your teammates aren't hitting the R button at all. So their teammates don't see all the targeted mechs on their minimap, the guys playing can't see which components are exposed, and anyone with LRMs has to work harder for target locks. The whole team gets screwed and loses the "information warfare", just because some people can't bring themselves to push the R button.
So after experiences like that, I sometimes do ask for locks. Why not? When I don't play LRM boats, the only times I get annoyed by target locks requests are when the LRM boats just hide behind cover and expect others to do all the work. But I don't play like that, so it's not an issue.
