i dont hate missile boats, what i hate is missile boats who ask for r and dont even have the decency to be in support range.

I think part of the reason people get annoyed about someone asking for Locks isnt so much about the LRMs. Its the implication that they wouldn't get locks anyway. Of course, as I said, among a not insignificant portion of MWO players it's reasonable to assume they wont.

It's flat out stupid not to lock targets in MWO.

1) Locks give you targeting data that will help you kill your enemy.
2) Locks inform the team where the enemies are and how dangerous they may be.
3) Locks allow teammates to provide you with firesupport.

Not locking is like slamming your hand in a drawer just because you can. You are placing yourself at a disadvantage by limiting the amount of information available to you. You are placing your team at a disadvantage by refusing to share information. You are placing yourself in jeopardy by refusing to use fire support. You are being selfish, and placing your own desires above the welfare of the team.

Pilots like that earn nothing buy my most bitter disgust. I would rather forfeit kills and win, then try to hoard kills and cost my team the match.

thought it only beeps and flashed when the lock was broken, not when the lock was acquired

Many people dont understand the benefit of having an LRB boat in the team. Surpression is a viable tactic, which stresses the enemy and makes him consider his moves (should I really go there?).

When I play an LRM boat, not often, perhaps once a month, I tend to shoot at anything that comes on my radar, no matter if I will hit or not.

Becuase the Incoming missiles warning ALONE can make a different to the enemies bahavior and push them back, even win you the game.

Most stupid people dont get this.

Right, that's fine, and I remember at least a few times where I was able to peak out and hold a lock on something from a safe distance (this was before the huge abundance of ECM mechs by the way...) because a teammate announced they had LRMs and I knew holding a lock would be good so the enemy got rained on pretty hard; when that happens that's cool, clearly no harm no foul at all.

This is where it's not fine and why I remind LRM pilots that they need to get their own locks as well. I'm usually not particularly rude about it unless the LRM pilot starts whining about the team getting locks for them, in which case I tell them to get their own ****ing locks or don't play LRMs.

Right, getting your own locks shouldn't mean needing to be suicidal to get a target at all, but (in general) if you're in an LRM mech not getting locks at all and you're whining at your team to get locks for you, you're usually just being bad.

That's not true though, there are people who expect that just because they brought an indirect fire weapon and the mentality is more widespread than some people may think, though of course it's not a huge problem with the vast majority of LRM pilots either.

The solution is to just maybe remind LRM pilots that they need to get their own locks as well, and if they get pissy then you know that they're bad.

Love to boat lurms. If I get locks great, if not oh well, I will get my own. It all depends on how you play.

Now if there was actual role based warfare where a missile boat had a purpose instead of doing dps like everyone else then I might play/mount them differently.

In the Group queue, if you're playing like the PUG LIFE, same rules apply.

If you're trying to play competitive (or practising in the Group Queue) targeting actually alerts the target that they've been spotted (Radar Derp *beep*).


A small thing, irrelevant to the PUG LIFE, but a notable concern for those who don't want to be seen.


Yeah, and that's why radar deprivation needs to be toned down just like seismic sensor was, the whole module is completely ridiculous how good it is.

LRMs suck against any decent team. I play an LRM boat frequently because my ping is horrendous some days. It's fun but so inconsistent. I also always bring a medium, so ad not to waste too much tonnage. Any time a team loses to LRMs it's just sad. A sad pug day indeed. But yeah. Play them, whatever. Have fun.

Holding the lock also requires you to maintain visibility of the opposing mech. If I am not taking return fire than all is well, but I will not eat damage so I can hold a lock for you.

If taking cover is not an option then the locks should be held.

That would be comparable if the artillery unit was also in the front lines, but it wasn't anywhere close so yes obviously they couldn't get their own coordinates; artillery is also obviously a lot more susceptible to friendly fire than LRMs.

LRM mechs are capable of spotting their own targets and are a lot more effective when they at least try (unlike bads who sit 800m behind everybody and depend entirely on everybody else for locks) so that's not really comparable even if it's similar.

Locks --> gets LRM support --> target takes damage from 2+ mechs --> target dies faster --> higher chance of blue team winning --> higher xp gains and cbill gains for blue team = happier players.

As for the amount of people that whine about kill stealing, get over yourselves, this is a team game, we win or lose as a team, so quit trying to be John Rambo, and be a legitimate, do your part to achieve victory.

I usually announce that I have LRM's just so others know that they can have support from 1000m away unseen, so to speak. I also let the group know that in case any of them have TAG or NARC's.

On the same note, I also mention when I've thrown up an UAV so they know to use it to THEIR benefit.

Seriously, some of you need to worry more about being a part of a team and supporting each other vs how many points you get or even if you get the "winz". And another thing, some of you punks that run and hide when you're the last mech in hopes to save your K/D ration, or to somehow get the win by having the hunters disco.... knock it off. Engage or YOU disco. Punks.

I find it amazing that so many tryhards don't get that their are profitable bonuses to be had locking.

Its ok because my Lurmer is usually in the front of the pack where I can peek empty triangles and reap the 1 time scouting on each. 24,000, cb if i get all 12.

I also love the idiot notion every lurmer sits in the back on easy mode.

I get right behind my fatties and hit what they are with lrm5 spam. and if they are poking I go flank for my own targets and bonuses.

The reason why noobs lurm wrong is because tryhard troll armies make it impossible to have constructive discussion on how to actually do it successfully.

Next point, I brought my armor, its for me. If your armor is not enough, bring more or don't tank with your face. Not my fault you are LOS dependent its yours. Armor trading is not the only way to play this game and is a dull way to start with.

LRM Specialists don't have to ask for locks, they get them for themselves. So when I see someone asking for locks what that tells me is that we're effectively down a Mech. Because unless you're really good with LRMs, you are in fact really bad with them. And I can probably count the players who are really good with LRMs on two hands.

LRMs are just that bad. It isn't the player's fault, other than the fact that they've failed to realize just how bad LRMs are and are still using them.

people dislike it because the request is using coming from some LRM boat who's just going to sit in the back and be useless if the game is remotely competitive.

also, holding locks is something smart players will do anyway, so specifically asking for it is 99% of the time pretty pointless

Seriously, some games you go "oh, they must have a lot of ecm because my radar is blank despite us being in a brawl."

Nope, just teammates that don't understand what the R key does.
