How does Matchmaker work in the group queue? I ahve a friend who has been thinking about playing but wants me to group with him to show him the ropes. This is something I'm reluctant to do since it's the group queue.

Does the Pub group queue take tier into account?

Group queue averages the tiers in a group and uses that to build and match teams, so while it does take it into account unless everyone on the team is of a certain tier the matches tier rating is likely going to slant higher for the lower tier people, and lower for the higher tier people. Unless everyone in the group was the same tier, then if there are enough other groups with that average tier rating they would be matched properly.

So with your friend starting in tier 5 if you do a two man group the tier for your group would be your tier plus his tier and divided by 2.

Also, the no tier 1's vs tiers 4 and 5 is out the window because of the averages. It's going to be harder than normal queue, but smaller groups do get a tonnage advantage over larger groups.

I'm sure there's a seal clubbing gif around here somewhere...

Honestly, your best bet is to buy him a couple days of premium time and then play around in a private match. Show him where to shoot the most common mechs, how to deal with lights, etc.

If you want I can probably find time to help out a bit with that and I do have premium time running atm.

^^This. Problem is, you won't earn CBills or XP. You can gift them premium time in the Store. Once they are a bit more familiar, and maybe have done the training grounds, you can try sync dropping in a Quick Play (we use the term Solo PUG) game. That is, if both of you are about the same Tier level ( 4 or 5 ).

Both Faction Play/Community Warfare, and the group queue are populated by large teams of veteran players. So going into those is going to be painful. Hence the seal clubbing reference. They tend to show absolutly no mercy.

Timbie is a trial right now so starting a smurf account wouldn't be that painful
