Nah Mango, the media outlets aren't run by the state, they are owned by the people who buy the people who run the state.

Look up Operation Mockingbird. The State indeed has significant influence over the media.

The state and the media are controlled by the same entity, the state itself is not the ultimate master of the media.

Sadly it seems this thread is no longer hilarious.

Also i did not mean to imply that the people have literally 0 control over the government. They just have significantly less than big money at the moment. Being aware of that is part of solving the problem.

Shut up. No one cares about your PC whinefest right wing social justice warrior problems, or how much you hate Trump. Youre both just as bad as each other.

there are immutable truths in this world,,, understand history for yourself.

Yeah one of those truths is that beyond the speculation of anthropologists and archaeologists, most of history is conjecture.

Especially the opinions of political radicals.

If were to believe you all, Saul Alinisky, Soros, and the Koch Brothers are in it with the martians for total control of the underhive yeti, waiting for Xenu to break out of the volcano.

Ill stick with science and common sense.

People are incredibly varied, and most people who attach great achievements, be them positive or negative, to one individual, are foolish. If Saul Alinsky was able to convince tens of millions of people his ideas are right, that probably means theyre better ideas than that of the competition. (or more likely the case is, he didnt convince anyone of his ideas outside of a few radical leftists, who already thought this stuff, back in the 20s, when they were agitating after world war one for communism, anarchism, you name it. People like Emma Goldman, or anti war writers like Kurt Vonnegut. Vonnegut certainly convinced more people than Alinsky. I mean I at least heard of Vonnegut in elementary school in the 70s. Are we going to blame liberalism on Slaughterhouse Five?)

**** that dont work, dont work.

Theres a reason no one listens to conspiracy whackjobs. Most conspiracies are bogus, and the ones that arent, are almost always discovered by the press, when someone blabs. (Gulf of Tonkin for example). Never by a bunch of mailing list Truthers.

When some guy comes along and says "Hoffa was in it with the aliens" or "The illuminati control the world!" or "Saul Alinsky, a completely irrelevant leftist no ones ever heard of who wasnt any different than agitators dating back to ancient Greece has created the neo liberal empire!" most people tune out.

And can we at least leave this crap out of MWO? For serious? Theres already facebook and twitter if you want to act like an Big Feets purveyor of UFO memorabilia.

I mean who blames Cicero for liberals?

NO ONE BUT MARC ANTONY.

And how is Alinksy any different than Cicero?

Come the hell on. Why do people think the entire world started at the end of world war two. Theres 5,000 years of leftists and rightests arguing with each other. No one invented this in the 50s. It didnt start with Marx. It surely didnt start with the American Civil war or American war for independence.

Theres a whole world out there, outside of your extremely biased left and right wing news sources, where rational people live.

Come back to us. We miss you.

Oh my god, this thread will go down in history as one of the best threads ever. I must archive it before it gets deleted.

Well said brotha.

Though I still find myself identifying as a leftest, and I find it to be a shame that we've lost the word "progressive" to people who've distorted the word to mean something more along the lines of "thought-control" than anything else. If you ask me, abandoning some of the modern "progressive" ideals would certainly be... progress : p

I would say that "progressive" was never liberalism , but it sounds good so those who where (or want you to think they where) liberal use it, but if we look through History (real history, not Hollywood) progressive looks more like Fascism .
sorry to all my liberal friends But look at some of those History things :
Andrew Jackson; "the only good Indian is a dead Indian"
or the party of Slavery: Democrat.
Who tried to stop integration and voting rights act? Democrats
Only after Kennedy was assassinated and L B Johnson did "He" not his party but he accepted what Republicans where trying to get through for years.

the list goes on .
what party was M L K a card carrying member ? Republican ,,,, funny how he died isnt it?
what party pushed Jim Crowe laws ? Southern Democrats.

in fact I think anything a Democrat says about republicans is really true about the Democrats. (Historically)

Always making promises and never , Never coming threw with them , and it is a fact that the Democrats control almost everything, in the public sector To Most (not all) of the media, and still things never get fixed. Why? Maybe if there wasnt some problems it couldnt be blamed on the Republicans ?

and by the way , Im a libertarian , today the Republicans and Democrats are all "progressives" (progress even if it kills everyone else)

oh you better not make a lame utoob video or you just may get blamed for some failure of the 3L33T progressive Running for President.

Wait whats that outside my window? OH NO Its Hillery in a black helicopter!

Except you just lumped in some 60 million democrats from not the Dixiecrats, over the course of 60 or so years, that have nothing to do with Jim Crowe whatsoever, right in with the Dixiecrats.

Ok and let me ask you, if you believe that people get where they are with hard work, and that people who dont succeed are lazy...

Then if the democrats "control everything" doesnt that mean theyre hard working, and the right wing guys are lazy? If they worked harder, then theyd control all the big companies right? Theyd control the media?

It's so funny to hear muricans talk about politics, none of those words (leftist, progressive, libertarian.. you name it..) mean the same things there as they do in the rest of the world, and yet it somehow goes without saying that you don't even need to spell out that you're talking about the US, even though the game we're playing isn't even from the US.

I'm always like...Uh wtf they talking about?? ...and then I realize that ok it's the muricans with their alternate political landscape again, moving on.

Sjorpha gets it.
You have to realize what you call left and marxist and idontknowwhat is already rather right in other western nations Posted Image
Also a discussion about the ability or inability of the playerbase of a Canadian game available worldwide to speak English has nothing to do with your political system or lack thereof.

@ OP perhaps people don´t want to follow your orders? perhaps they think they know better? I have no issue communicating ingame in English and I know plenty of people playing this game and with a different mother tongue than English who can express themselves just fine.

Yeah in Sweden for instance, the Marxists have this whole day in May where they run around in red sweaters and get drunk. Its actually a heck of alot of fun. Then theres the communist internationale that happens every year.

Of course in America, people do that too, but they arent the Marxists. Its Obamatron, and the Huffington Post.

Murica is a weird place.

Yeah, it's probably because US politics stir up so much controversy. For so long the world has understood that if people are screaming about politics they're probably American, so they didn't need to ask. Because they didn't need to ask, Americans have not often been corrected about their assumption that the whole worlds politics work the same as theirs.

Spoiler

So far as I understand it, the Democrats and Republicans did a big flip flop on who was on the left and who was on the right some time during the mid 20th century. Another reason why I try not to associate with political groups and parties. I probably didn't agree with anything the old democrats said, and in 100 years i may not agree with what democrats say.

I really like the word liberal... like what it literally means in the dictionary, right now... but I mean those words will have their meanings changed over time. I suppose I am of the opinion that the best way to describe one's beliefs are in many words, for if you define yourself with a single word, time will heavily distort what people will think you believed in if they look back. Though I suppose that only matters if you care what people think of you after your dead.

I dunno, I just think about these kinds of things in my free time.

Also America hasnt ever seen real serious destruction or hardship, so most Americans are like "____ is destroying America!" "<insert political ideology here" has destroyed America! Its a ____ hellhole!"

Both sides do this, and both sides have absolutely no idea what a destroyed country actually looks like.

People in America think Greece is going to collapse when they pay their debt.

Greece hasnt paid a debt since like 146 AD. To Rome.

Theyre fine. People in Murica are pretty much clueless to how the rest of the world operates. Everything is a disaster waiting to happen, because people dont know what a real disaster is. If its not the Rapture, or "Theyre takin mu guns!" its Y2k, or Reagan is the anti christ, or Carter is in it with the aliens, JFK was killed by the CIA, etc etc.

We think everything is a potential "**** hitting the fan" moment. Weve only had one or two, and they never really got terrible (Depression hit us less hard than most places, and we didnt get obliterated in ww2) so we dont have a gauge to judge "terrible" by.

We never had a plague. We dont have 500 year old buildings that have plaques on them saying they buried thousands of people there. We dont have craters. We dont have a long history of things going horribly, horribly wrong.

Were naive.

Yeah its hilarious, in the US theres still a year to go of the election cycle. In Ireland and Canada theyre like, oh lets think about this two weeks before the election, have the election, and then never think about it again until the next election...

Were pretty much the only place outside of third world countries that are this political, all the damned time.

Imagine how douchey were gonna be next August...*sigh*

Theres a YEAR of this crap yet to come.

Your election process looks more like showbiz than politics from here, no offence.

If you someday manage to elect someone who stops policing other countries, in return I'll go to the US and make myself a fairer picture of it.

Lol, you didn't use the proper Jargin.

I can correct you friend I live here in the south with a lot of CHARMING people.

The phrase you are so desperately searching for, bless my dear old grandmother's heart, is "America is going to hell in a handbasket"

Don't be fooled, the type of basket is important, it can't just be a basket, I'm not sure why, but I'm certain it's part of the equation. No it must be a Handbasket. Get it Right : p
